Just once I'd like to see a video game article about the inclusion of females in video games and not see a river of sexist comments. Why do I even read them? I know how they're going to be, I know they are going to make me feel totally worthless and helpless. Am I not going to get one day, JUST one day, not even a special day or my birthday, when someone says something female and video game related on a mainstream video game website and I don't feel like killing myself after reading the comments. I've been playing video games since I was three years old but as graphics improved and video games started making mega money, what gender-neutrality in games was there flew out the window. And suddenly it was cool to be sexist gamers. Kids weren't like that when I was going up, I was never excluded or looked down on until online gaming took off. Things are supposed to be getting better for me. I'm an adult, I have a disposable income, I can be naked in my kitchen. What I thought was a weird sexist trend, affecting only gamers seems to be all over the country and even in the government. The world around me is turning inside out and suddenly laws protecting women are being taken away right and left. The people standing up for me, like Anita Sarkeesian is the butt of jokes because she dared stand up and have a opinion. Right or wrong, doesn't even make a difference now, she's a martyr to the cause. Because sexist jerks disagree with and harass her just because she's woman and refuse to to have any valid arguments, even where there are some. Now women like me will have a harder time disagreeing with people like her because we have to band together to even survive. I've never excluded anyone. I've never thought I was better than someone else. I've never made fun of someone for being different or was mean to someone's face. I was a huge nerd in school and was bullied a lot but I knew someday I'd be grown and people wouldn't bully me anymore in the real world. Now they don't pull my hair or call me a bookworm, they find my fitness profile and post my progress pics on a gametrailers forum. They scream and message sexist obscenities and rape/death threats to me on Xbox. ALL THE TIME. Until I feel like I can't breath. They find my /now deleted/ facebook and try to post my address and phone number on 4chan. Luckily bigots actually are stupid, couldn't find my current information, like real "l33t haxors". And there's nothing I can do because I'm a woman and I can't change that. I was born this way and never hurt anybody in my life, but that doesn't matter to them.

Until at least 50% of female video game characters aren't sexual objects and 50% of male characters are. And stop making male characters murder-hungry, roided up, sociopaths. And more black, indigenous, Hispanic, and Asian characters. Things are really monochromatic right now. And, of course, more gay. Lots more gay. Gay women, gay men, trans people... Not just as stereotypical joke side-characters. Main characters, gay as the day is long. How about a black, trans-female character... as a conservative president. Shebang.

Barbara isn't a good female viking name. She should be called something like Sigrid, Herbjørg, Gudrun or Borghild. Something really butch.
She looks like a fun and awesomely kick-ass character that fits amazing into the Rayman Origins/Legends Universe. I like it. And that is all.

@cherubicwindigo and for the record, the sensible people on the internet are upset with Sarkeesian for judging characters on face value, not doing her research, being virtually unpleasable, and acting like her opinion is the opinion of all female gamers, not because she challenged sexism. The trolls and the 10 year olds followed suit because it was the latest "popular thing to hate on and spam over for the next couple of years".
