Raven designer will pay for your Wolfenstein... if it outsells Madden photo

This is a thing that's happening: Raven Software designer Manveer Heir has offered to pay for your copy of Wolfenstein if it outsells Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 10 in August. While the final sales will be determined by NPD numbers, Heir does point out that anyone can be reimbursed worldwide.

"Keep your receipt," he writes.

Let's face it -- this is a bit ridiculous. Even Heir himself says "it's not likely." As excited as we are for the game -- Wolfenstein looks like it's shaping up to be a solid shooter -- we don't expect it (or anything else for that matter) to outsell Madden NFL 10 in August. Or September. Possibly also October.

Who wants to buy an awesome shooter when you can pay full price for the same game for the 15th time?

Well if the Madden kids can keep it in their pants, then they can get Wolfenstein, get re-imbursed, THEN go buy Madden...

THINK OF YOUR FELLOW GAMERS!!!!

I would love for this to happen. Don't think it will, but I would love it all the same. And the above picture is awesome.

Okay. So if we're getting reimbursed, then all we need to do is assemble a team of gamers to buy out every copy in every store, everywhere, nationwide. This will ensure success! And we'll be getting a free game! (well, possibly twenty copies of the same game for free)

@Eques-Ardor: the trouble is that the huge fanbase of Madden fans is made up mostly of people who don't read gaming blogs, and who won't hear about this news.

You know, although he might be giving the wrong idea, it does represent the sad sorry state of the industry if a genuinely interesting game is undoubtedly going to be outsold by a game identical to last year's iteration.

And also, I can't believe he's actually serious. Bold move.

Nice stunt. but I don't think this is gonna happen. Maybe in the long run since sports games have a shelf life of one year.

I still found it funny

Like Eques-Ardor said, if only all the madden fans would organize and vow not to buy the game and instead by wolfenstein. That would be awesome. Won't happen though. Maybe all the gamestop employees will band together and refuse to sell anything but Wolfenstein.

Douche bag jock gamers do more then just tell you about your sexual preferences or your mother's status in bed, they also make you pay for Wolfenstein.

MURDER IS JUSTIFIED ON THESE PEOPLE.

I know this is just an advertising stunt but I'm guessing even if every copy of Wolfenstein was bought it wouldn't beat Madden. I mean they will print millions upon millions of Madden discs while they may print a couple million Wolfenstein. They literally cannot lose.

Well gobless 'em for trying. And hey, maybe it'll sell a few more extra copies for the rubes who think it'll happen.

I say let's all buy a copy on August 31, leave it sealed, and then return it in September just to show up EA.
Or we could just, y'know, keep it.

They wouldn't even manufacture enough Wolfenstein to get anywhere close to Madden numbers.

Even if you "organized" and bought out all copies.

Fun to think about though.

I would love it if this actually happens. Why play a sports game when I can go outside and play the real thing with my friends instead.

As much as I want to continue my hatred for Madden, I think I am all tapped out of hate. However my boycotting of NFL endorsed football titles will readily continue until the license is once again non-exclusive.

On a side note I hope EA's MMA game blows hard purely out of spite. Even better would be if it was superior to UFC 09 but sold like a bag of shit simply because it didn't have official licensing.
