Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time gets pre-order incentives photo

Pre-orders for Insomniac’s upcoming Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time are going to have you making some tough choices. You see, there are a lot of pre-order bonuses; four of them, in fact. Thing is, they're each exclusive to different retailers.

There's a lot of this stuff -- and it's all pretty cool -- so hit the jump for the details.

The “Discovery Package” (from GameStop) is a special level that re-creates the layout of the Insomniac offices, including content that didn’t make the final game. I’ve been to their offices before -- expect lots of cubicles and a small, but good, food area. And people working hard on Resistance 3... right? Right?

Or the “Bolt Package” (from Amazon) that’ll start you off with the “Bolt Magnetizer,” “The Box Basher,” and 5,000 bolts to start.

Then there’s the “Power Package” (from Best Buy), which includes a weapon skin for Ratchet, gives you extra hit points to start, and a “Cryo Mine Glove” that freezes enemies. Finally, the “Space Package” (from GameCrazy) hooks you up with hotrod skin for you ship, 5,000 bolts, and an exclusive Ratchet & Clank Home Avatar Skin. Of those two, one is being offered at GameCrazy, the other Best Buy. For whatever reason, Sony and Insomniac are being all secretive about it, so check your local retailer.

Before you start flipping out that you might miss out on something by not pre-ordering (or making the wrong pre-order choice), there are a few things to take note here. For one, based on comments made by Insomniac's James Stevenson on the PS Blog, it sounds they're making sure no one will miss out. It's likely that some (or most) of these items and goodies will be either unlockable or offered (for free) at some point down the line... you can just get a headstart of your choice, based on your pre-order choice.

Decisions, decisions. What will yours be?

The Discovery pack is the best by far. Doubt I'll be preordering though, at least not from GameStop. Hopefully these will all be unlockable some way or another for free.

That's pretty cool. Especially that you can get it one way or another without pre-ordering.

Anyone who has played at least R&C games know 5000 bolts is chump change compared to what you'll need later, so Gamecrazy's is arguably the worst because LOL HOME and Amazon's brings two more important "bolt getting" items.

Sounds cool. Decisions, decisions.

If I were getting R&C: CiT, no PS3 here, then I'd pre-order from Gamestop for the Discovery package. You can get everything else in the game already anyways, and I feel that the secret level is basically just another Insomniac Museum, which was always fun the past R&V games.

Discovery Pack is best, but Best Buy usually gives you the preorder stuff beforehand, so you can preorder it and cancel it later to get the stuff.

My decision is to buy it in the UK without a pre-order bonus and enjoy the fucking game!

So, in other words, they're all just lame things that do nothing but make the game easier, except for the Gamestop one.

5,000 bolts at the beginning is nothing. You can easily earn that in game. The Discovery Package is by far the best because all the other stuff you can easily unlock, with the exception of the skins which are completely unnecessary. I hate Gamestop, but I don't even have to think about my decision here.

Awesome , I was fearing awesome things that I can't get (like usual) , but seeing as how everthing's useless I won't feel bad after buying it at the humble CDuniverse at all ...

This all sounds really cool, is there a release date for this game aside from this fall?

I'd rather not pre-order from GameStop, but that one does have the coolest sounding thing. Although, if it's unlockable in game (I remember they had a think like it in one of the PS2 R&C games...), then it doesn't really matter.

So if I order right now I get the Spiral Slicer and not one but TWO Paring knives right?

Shit...I work at GameCrazy and even I'll say our pre-order bonus sucks compared to Gamestop's.

Fuck off, Insomniac. This exclusive pre-order shit is retarded.

I don't have a PS3, but the Discovery Package seems like the best choice.

How can you have "Pre-Order" crap, for a game that's coming out on the PSN Network? Seriously, how does THAT work? You just buy it of the network, end of story. I'm I missing something?
