There's no denying that Sony could really do with a hit in the near future, and there are few better franchises to tackle the Xbox 360 and Wii this Christmas than Ratchet & Clank. Recognizing this, Sony is reported to be pumping $1million into the promotion of Insomniac's platform shooter.
The huge bags with dollar signs printed on them have won Sony prime time Saturday night TV spots, ensuring that knowledge of the game will reach the masses. As the holiday season draws near, it's clear what horse Sony is going to back, and it's a very good choice. Not only is Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction bright and colorful enough to appeal to kids, the humor, gorgeous visuals and solid gameplay is something that adults can get behind as well.
The ad campaign will last for a month beginning November 16th. It will accompany a big online campaign featuring coverage on some of the biggest Web sites, both specialist and mainstream. Sony states it is looking at the game as a "benchmark" PS3 title.
Will Ratchet & Clank prove to be the secret weapon that Sony has long needed, or is the faltering company throwing good money after bad? Future: Tools of Destruction has the potential to be the biggest PS3 title to date, but it doesn't have much competition. Exactly how big the new Ratchet & Clank will be remains to be seen. Do you think the push will pay off?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
This is the closest thing the PS3 has to a system seller for me, but then, I've already known about it for awhile. I'm sure the marketing will pay off though for the casual consumer (or the hardcore gamer's clueless parents), especially with their new SKU nearly matching the price of the 360.
now i need to go see if my eb is breaking street date and selling the game.
I got's the demo for R&C:TOD... meh it's ok.
Dear Sony, I still fucking hate you (but I love you Insomniac)
Since there's no DW6 yet!
Even if you managed to finish it in a day (less than 24 hours) you'd be far from owning all the weapons and having them upgraded, getting all the skill points, or finding all the secrets.
why not 1 million dollars into *ahem* GAME DEVELOPMENT ???
Sony should be THROWING money at devs like they are dirty strippers. R&C looks fantastic and yes it deserves 1 million into promotion. But why not more money into game development? Why not 1 million in free dev kits? 1 million into Dev support? How about sony use 1 million dollars to have a proper STL lib written??
I may be crazy here, but I'd like to play games on a PS3.
No, sony has been behind in advertising for the ps3, It is one of the contributors to the negative-ness around the PS3.
They are putting money into development, just look at the acuisitions they have made recently. (as in the last year)

Will it have SPHERICAL WORLDS???
Most of the commenters here have been following Sony's demise for a while, and nothing short of them giving us free top shelf prostitutes will make us call any PS3 game a system "saver." I know I'll eventually pick the game up, but with call of duty 4 and assassins creed coming out, both of which I'm looking forward to more, it'll have to wait.
Ratchet and Clank games were definitely my most played PS2 games, and the new one is the biggest reason I'm sad I got a 360 instead of a PS3 -- especially considering that Gears, which was my 360 'killer app', is about ten hours long. Yeeha.
B) This series has always been fantastic.
C) The demo is a VERY small sample of what the full title has to offer. Don't judge it just on that.
