Do you like the old Rare games? I do. Hell, I think they helped save a certain game system back in the day. Perfect Dark was a kick ass game that is now coming back as a remake to the Xbox Live Arcade very soon. But what about other Rare classics? As you'd imagine, Rare is totally game with re-releasing their old games.
Rare boss Mark Betteridge gives us hope in this statement: "There's nothing to announce yet after Perfect Dark, but we've got over 25 years of IP to dip into so there's no shortage of possibilities."
Those Rare people sound really easy-going. Last week they said that they were also up for seeing more of their characters in other games, like how Banjo and Kazooie are both in Sega's All-Stars Racing. It seems like they're game for everything but making a new game. Or at least announcing their new game.
Perfect Dark just the beginning [CVG]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Mainly because I'm not a huge fan of Rare's. But eh.
kthxbai.
Also, Goldeneye HD please.
People will likely lynch me for this... but Perfect Dark is better in nearly every way to Goldeneye. Which is amazing, considering Goldeneye was bloody brilliant.
One thing I don't like about Gamerankings is that they allow critics to review games WAY after they've been released; so Perfect Dark is actually lower on the GR podium than Goldeneye, simply because a bunch of morons came in and complained about how visually unimpressive PD was "today".
Needless to say, I think GR is a BS version of Metacritic.
How can you NOT love the bongos?
I've been waiting forever.
Did you know that Donkey Kong its from nintendo?... Thats why DKC cant be released on XBLA... Maybe Battletoads...
Yea, but for whatever reason, DKC 64 is not on the Virtual Console (DKC 1-3 are).
The bongos are alright, but I can't imagine how awesome a new "Ratchet and Clank" style Donkey Kong game would be.
And while PD was a more polished game than GE, GoldenEye64 was probably the most geometrically-accurate videogame/moviegame ever of all time. In the world. Ever.
Even if they start releasing things like "Homicidal Instinct" "Silver Eye" or "Monkey King Country" it just won't be the same, so they can't ever win. We saw how well revamping Perfect Dark worked for them.
Most of the key members had left Rare before Microsoft bought the developer. That would have a lot to do with it.
A new proper Donkey Kong would be fucking SEX.

Uhh..are you sure?

Review scores in 2001 and later (%):
95 99 80 100 100 95 98.3 90 94 94 98 99 100 96 82 100 100 93 90
I checked the 82 score and all they had to say about the graphics was:
"Without the expansion pack, this game's graphics were very poor and the frame-rate lagged, and the multi-player wasn't playable without it. With the expansion pack, however, Perfect Dark did feature some exceptional graphics. Nothing was out of this world, but it was decent nonetheless. "
Dude they were soo much better
Doesn't really matter. Only reviewers around the day of release should have been allowed to review the game. It's inevitable that someone would find PD lacking by a 2003 or later standard. Why? Well, hopefully you're smart enough to figure that out on your own, if not: feel free to converse with yourself for now on.
Goldeneye was a good game, but Perfect Dark was definitely a better game overall. Metacritic shows this because they only allowed reviews at the time of release.
Then again, you could make the argument that since you weren't old enough to play PD when it first came out, GE is inherently better by default. But again, you'd only have yourself to discuss these matters with.
