Rare Elemental Gearbolt Working Designs swag sells for $787 on ebay photo

Ah, Working Designs. You had a way with hardcore gamers. Your midas touch on various Japanese imports had us all lining up for your next release. Whether it be metallic foil highlights on game packing or top-notch game pack-ins, you always excelled at the little details, and we loved you for that. Some of us still love you -- some even enough to pay $787 for your rarest promotional items.

That's right. Someone shelled out almost $800 in an ebay auction for what's known as an Elemental Gearbolt Assasin's Case, which was a promotional item given to press members at an event during the 1998 E3 (damn, I wasn't press then!). This promotional set for the PlayStation game Elemental Gearbolt includes a branded aluminum embossed case, a gold-painted Guncon light gun, the Elemental Gearbolt game, and red memory card. There is said to be only 50 of these sets in existence.

I would give my opinion, but it looks like the auctioner has me covered:

"For the price of a common PS3, you could have a shot at owning one of gaming's most sought after jewels."

If I had the money, I'd totally flush it down the toilet for this. Then again, I bought the rare Famicom Player II faceplate for the Famicom Game Boy Micro, so my opinion may be null and void.

Thing is, whoever buys things like this has money to throw away. Might as well spend it. Or give it to charity instead. That'd be cool too.

$800 for that gun. I rather used the money to buy a real gun for the upcoming zombie invasion that I know its gonna happen soon.

I love Working Designs stuff as much as the next guy but at that price some fellatio had better be included.

Wow, I was in Japan (ok, Okinawa, but frequently up on the big island) when this game came out.. I was an early fan of guncon games... wound up instead with an unfaithful girlfriend and stereo... wish I would have stuck to games back then... The nostalgia alone probably would have been worth the investment.
