Rapturous confusion: BioShock 2 is called 'sequel and prequel' photo

Sure, I grumbled about BioShock 2, until I saw the brief trailer from yesterday, which turned me into a glowing, excited child on the spot, despite my inner cynic. I had a flash of insight -- the game could actually be good. It could be rubbish too, but I like to lean on the positive side.

2K Marin's Charles Shechbeck commented on the trailer with some vague, mysterious words today:

"BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams is part of a prequel and at the same time is a sequel, so you’re kind of close on the interpretation of the trailer. The rising replica of Rapture can represent something to do with this or something part of a bigger surprise that everyone has to wait and see to play. "

Prequel AND sequel? What a tease. I envision something that shows us a bit of Rapture before the time of the first game and then jumps forward into the future, but who knows. It's not much to go on, but enough to get my imagination churning. I hope we get more than this trailer to go on soon, because the suspense is killing me.

It could be a new city, in the same vein as Rapture, that's going through the same events that Rapture did when it fell.

Or we'd play as a little sister that has really bad Post traumatic stress disorder with flashback sequences...

Anyhow, I want to see where they take this.

If it's from the perspective of a Little Sister, it could show before and after the events of the first game, with her having 'memory loss' during the period of her, um... 'recruitment'. This way we could even get a cameo of the first game's lead as he de-sisters us.

Plus, playing as a potentially smaller/weaker character could be better, as I was pretty damn powerful by the end of the first game, even on my Brass Balls run. More of a challenge when the game is harder.

A prequel? Fuck that. The game WAS a prequel. Give me a completely unrelated storyline or give me death!

It's the future and the past!! It's like Quantum Leap, except with less man in a woman's body lulz.

More than likely Rapture will rise from the depths, just as the trailer showed the sand city rising from the ground. I just hope to hear this song: [url=http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=odcJ-vS22rI]MR. Sandman[/u] sometime during this game.

They are probably just going to have 2 characters playing simultaneously in the past or future, or it will be set in the future with flashbacks to the past.

Either way, it should be pretty rad.

Yea, I felt bad for it but I got kind of excited after seeing the trailer, even after bitching all this time about a sequel.

Maybe it's called "Sea of Dreams" because you have playable flashbacks? A sequel with a little prequel?

I'm calling it right now: This game will not be a first person shooter. At least not 100%.
