Raid some tombs: Tomb Raider Underworld demo hits Xbox LIVE Marketplace photo

"Explore everything. Stop at Nothing. Download the Tomb Raider: Underworld demo now!"

That's the description for the 1.27GB Tomb Raider: Underworld demo that appeared on Xbox LIVE Marketplace this morning. While I'd imagine you won't have the opportunity to "explore everything" (and the whole "stop at nothing" could be an issue if you don't have an Xbox LIVE Gold account), you'll probably want to download the demo. Why? Because Lara Croft is back and as usual, she's wearing tiny cargo shorts to crawl around on rocks and shoot tigers.

Whether or not she'll get her knees and shins scraped up in that get-up is entirely in your hands. It might be pretty, but it's not going to be easy -- the first thirty seconds of the demo has Lara jumping into some gorgeous-looking water to swim with a God damned shark.

Stop at nothing, guys -- download the Tomb Raider: Underworld demo ... now!

As a long time tomb raider fan, I really enjoyed the demo and the surreal nature feeling of the area. It made me think of the first stage of TombRaider II dealing with spiders and tigers and dealing with all sorts of pitfalls. That said I had my doubts with the game but the demo has made me relived, I hope the rest of the game is more animals and less zip and pals talking lara's ear off.

I'll definitely try this, but considering that the TR:L demo for the 360 had a better frame rate than the final game, I'm hoping that it more accurately reflects the finished product than its predecessors...

That demo really rocked! Sure, I loved Legend and Anniversary, but this one seems to outdo them with ease. Gorgeous graphics, easily on par or better than Uncharted, great sound, great controls that feel like a mix of TR and Assassin's Creed, and focus on platforming puzzles, just the way it should be.
Give me the full version now!

I just never got into Tomb Raider. I only got as far as locking the butler in the fridge.

The Lara model amd animations are all new and definitely more realistic, with blur motion and not only that. She now climbs more like Altair from Assassin's Creed. She can flip around poles and stand on them as well to balance walk. She can grab poles and use them as weapons or stick them in a hole and use them to climb up. She can jump from wall to wall to get higher.

The jungle foliage is no longer flat and everything is more alive with wildlife everywhere, like birds, bugs. The animals are bigger and better. Lara can now do a karate kick. Aiming is better. It's still Tomb Raider, but there's definitely more depth to the TR than any of the previous entries.

As a lover of the 2 newest TR releases, I gotta say the control in TR:U seems a bit wonky. I loved the Lara Croft re-realization of TR:L, and enjoy TR:A that I just figured that the new title would have the same tighter control.

With the demo, I can only hope that they tighten the jumping and give the camera a bit tighter feel, and not have it so jumpy. In the last 2 TR games I've had my fair share of wonky deaths...But it seems like Underworld is just a bit off.

Here's to hoping they get it together for the release...The swimming, jumping, and camera control were low-lights of the demo...A bit unnerving, but I'll be lost in the Wastelands and Albion for a while, so hopefully if anything they deliver a patch...
