Ragnarok Online comes to the DS photo

The popular PC MMO Ragnarok Online makes its way to the Nintendo DS by way of XSEED. They announce today that Ragnarok Online DS is coming to the DS in winter 2009.

As of now, there are 3.14 million North American registered users on Ragnarok Online. I'd be willing to bet that quite a few of them would be willing to transition over to the DS game, which is said to bring the same gameplay and exploration that the PC title has.

”We could not be more pleased to be involved in bringing such a well-known and beloved series on the PC to a handheld platform,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “Ragnarok Online DS stays true to the original while adding elements to optimize the experience on the Nintendo DS.”

You'll be able to team up with two other players wirelessly to continue on the teamwork theme that the original game is built on. XSEED says that new players can enjoy the original storyline, now optomized for a handheld platform.

I'm interested. What about you?

I'm more interested in Phantasy Star DS. I never played any of the others, but my friends are big fans, and it would be fun to play together.

I never got into the regular games (pay to play, boooo!), but I may take a look at this.

I've wasted countless hours on a number of RO private servers, so I'll definitely be giving this a try. I'm not expecting it to be anything special, but I'm still curious.

I blogged about this first in my C-blog :P

Words can not describe how excited I am for this game to come Stateside. I constantly play RO when I have nothing else to do, and I look forward to a portable Ragnarok experience, even if it does not have the MMO factor.

I used to be addicted, i mean, play RO her ein the Brasilian servers, but the evreything was too shitty, everybody using cheats and bots and etc...
One day i deleted it and get rid of my addiction, i mean, MMO.

Back then, it was awesome, cool 2.5 grpahics sprites on a 3d environment was pimpin. Now, not so much. Plus too much botters and private servers. Free 2 play also attracts certain unwanted people...

Not to break the party van Dale, but the game isn't coming "to the DS". It's already been on the DS for over 6 months. The announcement was regarding a US release only, I've had the Japanese version since last christmas!

If you guys are RO fans, don't expect it to be anything like the PC game... I was let-down by it and stopped playing pretty early on.

Ragnarok Onlin,e my favorite MMO, now on the DS? AMAZING. Hope they get some new music in there, but even if they don't, will be the best DS soundtrack of all time.

I've been looking forward to this game too. Have yet to play Ragnorok on my PC, but an rpg with something different is welcome.

Yesterday I asked my friend if he would rather have Jesus 2 or Starcraft 2 and he said Ragnarok Online... then this shows up. >.>

I am never playing RO ever again. Spent months on end just grinding, and grinding, and more grinding. Just to start over.

Add a community of spammers, kill stealers, etc etc, and the whole experience goes down in flames. Besides, it got to the point that my social life was gone for a whole month.

Same goes for any MMO I guess.

Note to everyone:

I'm pretty sure this isn't gonna be really online as the original game, and if it turns out it is (I honestly don't know), then it'd be room-based play I'm sure. I remember somewhere about four being the max of people that can play at once. If it turns out to not have anything but ad-hoc, there ya go.

Note to Doomsday Forte:

If you read the article, you wouldn't be saying that in the first place.

It looks the same as RO. Which doesn't disappoint me because if I didn't like that then I wouldn't still play. However, since (if the article is right about this) it's only 3 players... and I'm willing to bet you have to have friend codes... then it'll be a nice game to try, but likely not take the place of the original. Without the massively multi-player aspect of my favorite MMO, I'm not willing to replace my PC game with the DS version any time soon.

I was really excited when news first came out, since I still play RO. Then when the Japanese version was released, and I got a hold of it, my A.D.D. got the best of me. I never got to try wireless since no one else around me had the game (playing games on the DS with people is always fun!). So I'd give it another try. I do like the storyline aspect though, since in the MMO sometimes people don't bother with the back story.

You know, I have to tell all of you guys, I really enjoy this game and the insight from everyone who participates. I find it to be refreshing and very cool. I wish there were more games like it. Anyway, I felt it was about time I posted, I've spent most of my time here just lurking and playing, but today for some reason I just felt compelled to say this.
