If you're looking to buy Rage on the Xbox 360 and you like to install your games, you're going to need to do a sh*tload of deletion first. id Software's John Carmack has stated that you'll need to shove 22GB of information down your 360's throat.
Despite the large file size, Carmack believes you'll definitely want to install it, should the 360 be your jam.
"On the 360 we don't have a partial install option; it’s all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate," he said. "It means you have to install 21/22GB of stuff which takes a long time but if you've got it and you play it on the 360 that’s the way to go.
"Once you get everything from memory that works pretty good, but if youre coming straight from the hard drive then the first time you walk into everything from the DVD or from the Blu-ray -- even worse in terms of total latency time -- you listen to that Blu-ray churning around as its [sic] pulling everything in."
Rage will ship on three DVDs -- two for the single-player game, one for the multiplayer mode.

Thing is, PS3 forces manditory installs on you where it is simply optional on the 360.
The beef with PS3 installs still stands.
Of course, as it stands right now it will come out the same day as Dark Souls so it looks like my computer will get a bit of a respite while my PS3 gets another dark and desolate taste of loneliness and despair. I can't wait!!
total installs is exactly what you always have to do with PC games, wouldn't you like to just pop a game into your rig and have it work right away? Probably not because you'd have to be a weirdo to buy your games physically anymore, but still! It's a nice thought.
@ Jim
Is it the same on the PS3 as well? Or do you have any info on that?
On topic now, this is to be expected really. I mean it's 3 disks, what else do you expect? I'm kind of sad they don't have a SP or MP only install option though.
I only install maybe 3/4 of the games that I play, but it's nice to have the option without worrying about space.
But ill buy this game fo PC.
@flintcsci +1
... or run fine as the Wii discs are 25gb in size?
High graphics and incredible art take up a lot more space. I'm sure they are using the most detailed textures that the 360 can handle, to make it look nice.
i really hope they won't pull Rockstar and delay game entirely just to fix broken ps3 version while both PC and 360 versions just sit there. Rockstar did this with GTA4 delaying already finished 360 version for nearly 7 months while fixing ps3 version that still was subpat compared to xbox edition.
Or that.
My mythical brother already has a mythical copy of Rage on his 360 and
He says it suffers from screen tearing, texture pop-up,and looks atrocious, especially when running from Disc.
That and my PS3 has a 640gb hard drive Vs my 360's 20gb.
troll harder. those issues were confirmed by Carmack himself and in most of the previews of Rage from sites that got their hands on all versions of the game.
At least it's not like the PS3, where if you have a fatty, and 10 games that need large installs, you're SOL. I have to constantly delete my cache to house my PSN games.
IF YOU'RE SCREAMING YOU'RE EXCITED! /reason
Really? I have a fat PS3 with a 640gig HDD
Sweet Hay-zeus, I only have a 250 and I have 110gb free and like 40 PS3 games....I'm covered.
