Well, the 360 is using a fading software(DVD) and the PS3 is using old hardware (2x BD speed reader), so I hope they are starting to plan for their next batch of systems, cause my consoles are starting to gather dust now.
I would agree that things like this are becoming a problem if our current consoles weren't so old. The games that developers make are only becoming more demanding, while our current hardware is still the same. The only reason that things like this didn't happen during last gen was due to the fact that the technology didn't exist to do so. If an 8GB install is what it takes for a third party game to run at optimal settings on my PS3, I'm perfectly fine with it as long as I have the chance to play it.
Will a new generation of consoles change how games are patched? Probably not, but I'm fairly certain they'll fix the multi-disk/install problem.

considering the fact that most multiplatform games with installs on ps3 still work better on 360 from disc i don't mind having an OPTION to install the game.

This isn't "most mulitplatform games", the tech of this game really really benefits from having a hard drive to stream data from.
So you will want to install it on the 360 (all 22GB of it) if you want the best experience.

I honestly rather have 3 discs than take up 8GB of my hard drive which is already completely packed.

No it didn't, it took 5-10 minutes on my PS3, what's wrong with your hard drive? You should have gone with it took an hour to patch, which would have at least been realistic, & a valid point. Lucky for me, I just skipped that bit for the evening, & let PS+ sort it out for me overnight.

from what was reported it takes over 20minutes between putting the disc into ps3 and seeing game menu in Resistance 3, go watch Rage Quit(it's friggin hilarious).

We all want the best performance but we dont wanna be inconvenienced This is just the price you pay for that performance. It has nothing to do with slow disc read speeds it has to do with giving your console direct acces to the resources it needs.
We can bitch all we want but its not gonna go away...resources for games these days take up a lot more space because we like better graphics each generation. This is the price we gotta pay as consumers for wanting our games in the best possibly way.

This is a good thing for PS3 owners. This installs the high-res textures to the PS3's HDD. If they had to rely on the PS3's 2x BD drive they would have had to reduce the resolution for the PS3 version, which has been done frequently on the PS3 this gen.
Sofik is right about the Resistance 3 install, it took at least 20 min. To install on my PS3. Guess how long it took to delete the install when I was done with the campaign? 1 HOUR! Topic, I'm desperate to play Rage and I think i'll get this for 360, I can't even imagine how long an 8 gig mandatory install will take to delete on PS3.

Well at least the 8 gig install is a non issue, I mean if you want to play the game on pc wouldn't it be like a 25gig install? He'll the witcher 2 takes up that much space, 8 gigs is nothing.

I just skimmed through that article of yours about PC gaming, and I swear if it weren't for DRM, I'd go 100% PC.
The advantage of consoles will always be that when you buy one you are technologicly covered for at least a couple of years ahead. Plus that you don't have to depend on a PC that might be infected with an entire Noahs Ark of Horses, Worms and other crap.
When I play on a console, it always fells a little more safe and stable than the few times I play on my PC.
Plus that the consoles will always haver a lot of exclusives.
And yeah, some genres will always be better on PCs and the Graphics always catch up with the new consoles after a couple of months or years, so if Graphics and horse power is your thing the PC will always be the better choice, if you can afford it however.

Dear Lord ! Get your facts right. You don't have to rip your friggin 360 discs. Installations do not take the amount of space, that the discs has to offer.

The one pro of console gaming is playing on a big screen, at least thats a pro for me. I know you could hook up your PC to your TV, but that isn't really an option for me considering it is not just me, that uses the PC.

@dunnace: One word: preloading. I download the 25GB before release and play while you're still standing in line to buy it.

Nobody cares about the install requirements anymore, or the multiple discs, except fanboys. And nobody cares about them, so any true Rage over this is a non-issue.
As for the "Pros" of console gaming:
When I buy my Xbox 360 game, I know it will run
There is no DRM
I can rent Xbox 360 games
I can trade my Xbox 360 games in for new Xbox 360 games

Seriously everyone: INSTALL IT. I tried RAGE at Eurogamer and it uses streaming textures, so unless you want to see the world bake around you quite slowly, I suggest you install the game.
It's like, his body is nice to look at, but he isn't exactly husband material. A short, lean nerd with red hair and beard is a seriously better investment of your time and affection than this haughty adonis.
And, I'll wait on Rage, see what reviews have to say about its story. Figure it'll be a good game besides though.
