Will a new generation of consoles change how games are patched? Probably not, but I'm fairly certain they'll fix the multi-disk/install problem.
now 8GB installation on ps3? that's what, 60+minute long? good luck with that. Resistance 3 had 1.5gb installation and it takes over 20minutes to install the game.
While arguing with you is probably pointless given your reputation ... but I'm going to do it anyway.
This isn't "most mulitplatform games", the tech of this game really really benefits from having a hard drive to stream data from.
So you will want to install it on the 360 (all 22GB of it) if you want the best experience.
Don't do it. There be dragons.
I have a 3DS and a Wii.
Hey, I gotta have something to play when I'm installing shit on my PS3.
360 fanboys "mandatory installs suck, therefore 360 better than PS3, bwah bwah!!"
PS3 fanboys "getting off my fat lazy arse to change discs, no way, bwah bwah, having to install 3 separate discs, bwah bwah!!"
PC fanboys "consoles are shit, PC's are way more powerful, bwah bwah!!"
Sofik88 "20 minutes to install Resistance 3, bwah bwah"
No it didn't, it took 5-10 minutes on my PS3, what's wrong with your hard drive? You should have gone with it took an hour to patch, which would have at least been realistic, & a valid point. Lucky for me, I just skipped that bit for the evening, & let PS+ sort it out for me overnight.
jimmyx - I haven't even seen you comment on this yet, but just in case, you're 12, therefore anything you say doesn't count.
When did gaming become about whining that I have to wait 10 minutes after I put the disc in to play a game. Have you seen that quality of entertainment we're getting this gen? (on either HD console) It's awesome. I'll happily wait an hour, or swap 8 discs for a spectacular experience, & lots of fun. After all, that's what it's all about. Enjoyment.
You'd thinking gaming was hard work the way some of you go on.
As others and myself have mentioned already.
On the 360 you are going to want to install too - all 22GB of it.
Running the game from the DVD isn't recommended.
from what was reported it takes over 20minutes between putting the disc into ps3 and seeing game menu in Resistance 3, go watch Rage Quit(it's friggin hilarious).
We can bitch all we want but its not gonna go away...resources for games these days take up a lot more space because we like better graphics each generation. This is the price we gotta pay as consumers for wanting our games in the best possibly way.
Yeah, it was pretty much all this year. You're getting hilariously angry about a small selection of games.
Fucking hell.
To me, the real benefit for console gaming is that you know that every game you buy for your system will work. It's less expensive and it's simple.
Installing takes what? 15 minutes at most
Swapping a disk takes maybe 30 seconds?
Plus is there isnt that many people with a console that has less than 120gig these days
Learn a bit of patience.. console users seem to accept their slow load times but changing a disk seems to be taboo.
When I play on a console, it always fells a little more safe and stable than the few times I play on my PC.
Plus that the consoles will always haver a lot of exclusives.
And yeah, some genres will always be better on PCs and the Graphics always catch up with the new consoles after a couple of months or years, so if Graphics and horse power is your thing the PC will always be the better choice, if you can afford it however.
Just about every PC game today are multi-platform games so they are usually scalled down from the very beginning to make sure they can run on the consoles to.. Which kinda defeat the whole purpose.
Oh. And then theres DRM :P
You are hardcorestupid. Installations do not take the whole space of a disc on the harddrive. Those are installations, no DLDvD-Rips. And where do you get your false numbers from ? Your Ass ?
Gonna wait for reviews before deciding to pick this one up regardless.
ALSO °°°!!°°° READ FOR GODS SAKE °°°!!!°°°
Jims article says, that you only have to install one disc at a time, IF YOU WANT. The singleplayer campaign is on the first two discs (discspace 2x 7,4GB <- DISCSPACE /= INSTALLSPACE). If you are done with the singleplayer, you can delete your installed files, and if you wan't to play multiplayer with better loading times, you can install the third disc.
will probably just pop it in and start the install before i go to work or something or just go take a nap
YAY FOR NAPS! :D
Seriously, are you people insulting each other over a news article about disc installations? REALLY?! I want you guys to think about that for a moment and consider what you've done with your lives.
Would suck balls if all you had was a 360 arcade though..
Oh and after watching a bunch of rage at eurogamer - meh.
"No, I had to blow in my carts and clean my discs. Your house must've been immaculate."
Respect man... respect...
On my NES, after blowing, 9/10 the game would only work if I didn't push it ALL the way in. The edge of the cartridge had to clip the cartridge slot, and THEN it would work.
Also, while your game installs, watch pr0n and enjoy yourself!
But it's cooler to hate mainstream-titles, right?
Yes, I did cause you know, I have a magical ass that gives me all the information that may or may not matter to me
-____-
Hey, how about going on other websites and reading what John Carmack has said about Rage's PS3 and 360 install size. You do know that Destructoid doesn't give ALL the information, right? If you really want to learn more about the subject, you either have to click the link provided below the article, or research it yourselves... You assnuggets. Pulling things out my arse... I'm no arse wizard, I am not!
LMAO, best thing I ever read today.
LIES, all Lies. : P
Also: I have no problem with installs. However, in the next generation I hope they correct this.
@Jim -- There are a lot of trade-offs with PC gaming. It's definitely not all roses on that side of the fence.
I'm don't have anything against consoles but I had to point that out.
@jimmyx: More goods for your money? You'll make up the install times in loading times or having to see low-res textures while you wait for the 360 to stream the better ones, if you don't install. You get the same in the end. Failed trolling attempt, son.
As for the "Pros" of console gaming:
When I buy my Xbox 360 game, I know it will run
There is no DRM
I can rent Xbox 360 games
I can trade my Xbox 360 games in for new Xbox 360 games
I have nothing against gaming on the PC, and in fact do so quite a bit (Dawn of War 2 being one of my favorite games of all time). But to pretend that there's no advantages to console gaming is just silly.
And, I'll wait on Rage, see what reviews have to say about its story. Figure it'll be a good game besides though.
Direct Quote from an antiquitated article (August 8, 2011 - http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/08/rage-for-xbox-360-install-size-alarm-bells-form-xbox-720-ps4/)
“On the 360 we don’t have a partial install option; it’s all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate,” and added “It means you have to install 21/22GB of stuff which takes a long time but if you’ve got it and you play it on the 360 that’s the way to go.”
-> everything that was written above is not true since the 24th of september anymore. You don't have to install those friggin 20+ GB - OH! And by the way, you don't have to install at all if you don't want to.
End of the argument.
Will play RAGE on Pc as it will be the best version - My 360 is stuffed with Gears 3 and my ps3 is rocking the ICOlossus Collection. So everybody got served.
So let me get this right...
XBOX360
1. Install Disk 1
2. Uninstall Disk 1
3. Install Disk 2
4. Uninstall Disk 2 (optional)
5. Insert Disk 3 for Multiplayer (Instal optional)
PS3
1. Install Disk 1.
