Raccoon City gets running zombies, courtesy of Left 4 Dead photo

Hey, check it out: a post about Left 4 Dead that doesn't involve the words "boycott," "DLC," or "unfinished."

Valve, the much-beleaguered masterminds behind Left 4 Dead, released their Authoring Tools about a month ago, effectively inviting modders, tinkerers, and craftsmen of all kinds to build maps and campaigns of their own. I'm sure there are hundreds of excellent mods out there already, but a modder named Outatime is creating an especially interesting bit of zombie confluence -- Resident Evil's Raccoon City.

I suppose that Raccoon City makes sense for a Left 4 Dead mod since Resident Evil:Outbreak was like a poor man's L4D anyway. And so, it seems that a lineage of survival horror has come full circle, although Leon Kennedy never had to deal with a startled Witch

Outatime plans on creating an entire six-map campaign (called Resident Evil: Last Escape) out of the iconic zombie-infested city, but one map ("Raccoon City Streets) is already available. It's still in its beta stage, with some nasty framerate drops, but it's nevertheless playable.

I haven't had a chance to play Last Escape yet, but if you're interested in doing so, you can download it here. Hit the jump for a video, and check out Outatime's YouTube channel for even more Last Escape videos.

Zombie games should stick with their own kind if you catch my drift, boy.

Leon has had to deal with Ashley. I think many would consider it would be like dealing with a startled Witch. :)

Damn.
When will they, if ever, bring the franchise over to the PS3?!

@Art

Even if they did, you wouldn't be able to play this as it's a custom map and they are only possible on the PC version of the game.

Looks pretty cool. I didn't know you could play in 3rd person though. I assume there is some sort of console command on the PC version only?

Count me in :D
i'll wait till 1 or 2 more maps available though.
come to think of it , RE hunter is almost the same as L4D hunter , ha ha.
they could make licker in place of smoker and stuffs too.And the main villain from RE:Dead Aim as witch,Nemesis as Tank & Ivy as Boomer.Just my opinion, lol.

And alligators are the best thing abt RE5.

pretty good job there, I have to say. its hilarious how implausible and un-american raccoon city actually looks when you see it like this. its basically a smaller tokyo with red brick buildings and fire escapes.

It's times like these that I wish that the Xbox 360 supported mods or that I had an awesome gaming PC. Nice mod nonetheless.

Damn, if there was one thing to spur me into getting a better PC at last, it would be this.

I guess I'm going to have to get L4D now...I always said Zoe looked exactly like Claire.

None of my friends know who Claire is though. Time to get new friends, you say?

As someone who's played RE3 30+ times, I came. I came hard. My penis exploded in a shower of blood when she got the shotgun from the body in the cellar.

I'm going to have to buy the PC L4D now. Lets my 360 version have a rest for a bit I guess.

Cadtalfryn: Zoey's a pretty shameless copy of Claire, especially if you compare Claire's C:VX outfit to Zoey.

It seems very open and backtracky for a L4D map. It will probably change the way people play.

I'm surprised they used "thirdperson" instead of "thirdpersonshoulder" to replicate the RE4-5 look.

That is awesome. I still don't have Left 4 Dead and I may get the PC version instead of the 360 version.

I just might have to turn on L4D again! That nude patch was amusing for like 20 seconds....and no that wasn't my best time.

Just tested this out. Fantastic map, and the likeness is very visible. My only problem was the frame rate drops. I'm on a high end computer, and had quite a few drops on the first half of the map. The second half was fine, didn't notice any drops. Music and sound effects are wonderful. I can't wait until there's a full release of these maps.

Get the hose and put out the fire! Brings back so many memories of RE3, I was surprised at how similar he was able to make it.

What would've made it even BETTER is if he'd used the gate part (you know where in RE3 you have to use the lighter to burn through the ropes?) and made it into a choke point, kinda like the elevator bit in the hospital.

Hit a button, light the ropes on fire, defend position as rope burns. That would be freaking sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Am I the only one sad there seems to be no boutique to change costumes in?:P
