R.I.P Aliens RPG: Sega responds to cancellation photo

I think I've written about Aliens as much as Kotaku's written about Dragon Quest IX. I just love acid-filled space rapists with big, phallic heads. That's why I was bummed when Aliens RPG was officially canned, and Sega's response doesn't cheer me up, unfortunately.

"At this point, Sega has no plans to move forward with the Aliens RPG," states a Sega spokesman. "The Aliens franchise offers us so much content to choose from that we feel it important to take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release.

"We plan to continue working with the Aliens franchise and ask fans to be patient and stay tuned for more information about what SEGA has coming out for the Aliens series of games, starting with the upcoming Alien vs. Predator game. We are very excited about and focused on Alien vs. Predator, which promises gamers a fantastic single player game and an equally compelling multiplayer experience. We are confident that it provides all the excitement and fun that the Aliens and Predator fans are looking for."

Well, there you go. Seems like Sega just had so much Aliens content coming, and something had to take a hit. With developer Obsidian already working on Alpha Protocol, it just made sense I guess. It's still a shame, since I'd love to see the Aliens franchise tackle a brand new genre, but it looks like we'll have to wait. Luckily we have AvP, Colonial Marines and the DS spin-off to tide us over.

This really pretty much sucks, I was looking forward to this quite a bit. Oh well, as long as Colonial Marines delivers I guess I'll survive. I really couldn't care less about Alien vs Predator.

Awesome pic, BTW.

This is quite possibly the best RPG none of us will never play.

"The Aliens franchise offers us so much content to choose from that we feel it important to take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release". Translation: We're going to make a generic FPS or God of War with Aliens and Predators and shit because those are cheap and easy to churn out so suck it.

I hope that Sega spokesman gets infected by a face hugger and gets his chest burst opened.

If this'd been in the style od a JRPG, us Aliens Vs. Predator fans benefit. If, however, the RPG was to have been similar in style to Fallout 3, EVERYONE LOSES.
