Quick observation: It's true, old people do play the DS photo

For the next two days, I'll be in Las Vegas (hopefully SARS free this time) to take a damn good look at some upcoming games and such from Midway. Well, on the flight here from New York, there just so happened to be a Nintendo marketing dream sitting next to me -- an old dude with a DS.

While watching TV at my seat, I see out of the corner of my eye that this old dude -- we'll call him gramps for this story -- whips out a white DS Lite. Keep in mind gramps is at least 60. Well, once I saw this, I just had to see what gramps was playing. Wanna guess what it was? Go ahead I'll wait a second ... ... ... he started playing Hotel Dusk: Room 215! What a pimp! So yeah, looks like that good ol' Nintendo marketing machine really is reaching out to the elderly. You go gramps!

BTW, if there happens to be any readers in Vegas tonight that wanna party, let me know. I'm staying at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay.

I saw a guy on the bus in his 50's playing a psp but it wasnt just a psp, it was a psp in a hard plastic case with 2 umds attatched to the case as well. One was lords of dogtown (lol) and I couldnt see what the other one was. Anyway I guess the ds isnt the only handheld gaming platform that can attract older folks.. although I still like the DS more just because it has more games and the games are more pick up and play oriented.

Good for old people who're not afraid of new (or relatively new) technology, even if they don't play kick-ass games on them. I like it that they play the likes of Hotel Dusk.. like reading a good mystery, or a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

I would like to be the cool grandpa when I get old, the one that plays videogames with the kids and can still win.

Gamers for life though, right? It's easy enough for us to say we'll be gamers when we're old because we grew up as gamers. Gramps was already in his thirties (at least!) by the time Pong came out.

How the hell is Hotel Dusk not a "kick-ass game"? Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
