Queen guitarist hints at Queen Rock Band coming soon photo

Now that Beatles Rock Band is out and has proved such a successful concept, we're sure to see many other band-specific versions of the popular game. Like Queen, for example, may be next, if a recent BBC interview with guitarist Brian May has anything to say about it. While praising the new Muse album (which you need to go buy right now because it's stellar), the topic of Queen's appearance in Lego Rock Band came up, and that led to talk of other Queen-centric games.

May mentioned discussion going on behind the scenes in regards to a Queen Rock Band game, and he was quoted as saying: "Yes we're into it, I think it may happen." Who could blame him for being into it -- I am really into the idea of rocking out some Queen Rock Band style myself.

What do you think of the idea of a slew of Rock Band titles focusing on specific bands. Cool? Or milking the franchise?

Big step down from the Beatles.

Was kind of hoping for a Bowie rock band. Not a fan of Queen :(

Isn't there already a SingStar Queen? I think that franchise is a more appropriate venue for them really... unless they're planning a keyboard peripheral (Note to Harmonix: DO THIS).

Queen....ehh.
Bowie would have been cooler, but they have no need to crank them out like Activision does.

Unless, of course, someone has garnered the rights to create and sell Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin Rock Band titles.

How will any regular person ever be able to sing like Mercury? What's next, Klaus Nomi Sing Star?

Probably milking the franchise a bit, but definitely something I'd want to play.

Please don't do it. We really don't need to milk this franchise. The Beatles worked because it was the freaking Beatles. Other then that, just make Rock Band 3.
The only band I could really see that I'd really WANT a whole game based after (and is an interesting enough band) would be The Rolling Stones. Other then that...yeah.

No offense to Queen, but this is kind of a step down from the Beatles in terms of cultural cachet.

Now don't get me wrong, "Don't Stop me Now" would be more fun to play than half of the Beatles catalog put together.

I have to agree with the bulk of the comments, Queen Rock Band = meehhh.

Beatles Rock Band is fine and good, but they really should just make Rock Band 3, and include some Queen songs, or even just have a downloadable Queen pack. A game based all around Queen just seems silly.

As much fun as it would be to play Bohemian Rhapsody with a room full of drunken friends, I'm not sure if that outweighs the creep factor of a digital Freddy Mercury.

Somehow I doubt this game will come to fruition.

Most of the most desirable songs are coming to Rock Band anyway.

Now, Muse, on the other hand, MOAR PLZ HARMONIX.

I'm all for playing more Queen music, but even if they gave the disc the fully Beatles Rock Band treatment with dreamscapes and such, I think this could be done more successfully by a chunk of DLC than pumping out another disc.

I'd prefer a "Brit Rock Band" which is just a big-ass collection of Bowie, Queen, Zeppelin, Floyd, and maybe U2 (just because 5 is a better number).

But then, I have no intention of ever getting a RB/GH game in the forseeable future, so what the hay!

I really hate the idea of seperate releases of Rock Band for specific bands. Sure, the Beatles are cool and everything, but I'd much rather have their music on Rock Band 2 with my hundreds of other downloaded songs so we don't have to switch discs and hold up the party every time someone wants to play Come Together.

My friend picked up Rock Band: The Beatles and we played it for all of 20 minutes before going back to Rock Band 2 for a 5+ hour play session nearly every night for the next few days. The very least they could have allowed us to export the songs from the Beatles disc to the hard drive for use with Rock Band 2 like they did with Rock Band and LEGO Rock Band. With how many songs I own on Rock Band 2 and how lame it is that I can't have The Beatles songs along with them, I'm pretty sure my friend's money would have been better spent on the stage kit.

Doing something similar with Queen is just stupid. Rock Band is so much fun because of its variety and not because it's packed with 45 songs by the same artist. I own something like 200 songs for Rock Band 2 and my friends love it, because they can always find a number of songs by varying artists that they enjoy. I know Bohemian Rhapsody is something that all my friends will want to play, but I doubt that I'll want to pay $60 to have it on a separate disc that will only get a few hours of play in the years it will sit on my shelf.

I love Queen, don't get me wrong - but single band games are ridiculous. If game companies want to milk it that way just do it by era or genre.

I would like to see a Blues Rock Band myself, for the chance to wail like Howlin Wolf.

Queen songs are hard, that's for sure and yes, they'd have a big challenge in creating the same (or better) athmosphere and feeling that they did with The Beatles RB.
However, I'm a huge Queen fan and I've been dreaming with this since the first "Guitar Hero Somebody" game.

I am so buying it.

Look. I absolutely love Queen. Even more than I love The Beatles, actually. Hell, I even love Harmonix. That much isn't a secret. But I wouldn't buy this. For the same reasons I wouldn't buy GH: Aerosmith, Van Halen, Metallica, etc.

I can understand why The Beatles would get their own game, they're a world-renowned staple of music. But if every band gets their own game, the franchise will soon just turn into Guitar Hero with a different UI. There've been rumors of U2, Queen, and some other bands getting their own Rock Band games, and every time I hear it, I hope it's not true.

Although that Rock Band: Britain thing someone mentioned does sound like a great idea.

And a keyboard peripheral isn't coming anytime soon, unless it's with a different series. e.g.; DJ Hero. Keyboard Hero? Perhaps.

I want to say that this is dumb, but then it might happen. Right before GH3 came out, I said that a band specific game wouldn't get made because it doesn't make sense financially. You could potentially eliminate prospective gamers if they didn't the band in question, while catering to a very select few.
4 band specific titles later...

Hum, am I the only one who remembers that RB is putting out a Queen 10-pack next week? There is no way they would release a big ol' "heres all the Queen songs you asked for!" pack and then go "hum, you can also pick up 35 of the less cool ones in a new stand alone expansion..."

Hate to perpetuate a stereotype, but this is probably just another celeb that really isn't fully aware of how games are made or what his songs are currently being used for.

Fuck everyone else. This is the best news I've heard all week. Queen is one of my favorite bands, so this is fantastic news. The Beatles are a fantastic band and all, but they aren't good for Rock Band at all. This game would be a fucking blast, Queen is arena rock. Queen is meant to be sung along to in large groups while everyone's on their knees doing air guitar solos.

I can't think of a better band to have their own centric Rock Band game.

Other than Muse that is.

I think moving forward from Beatles Rock Band, to one featuring Queen would be cool. What you people forget quickly, is that these games are also about telling the bands story, in the same impressive way as was done with the Beatles.

Harmonix would be insane not to do it, especially with Activision as competition with GH, and B:RB puttng them ahead somewhat. I'm sure if only Beatles fans purchased B:RB, that's still a fat pile of cash for Harmonix and co. Add gamers onto that number and when those sales figures for it come back, after a year on sale, another one will more than likely be in the pipe.

Why not Queen? They are a world famous band, with plenty of material, influences and changing styles over a few decades, just as the Beatles did. Even I'd buy it. Doing it as DLC would be nice in theory, but a physical copy would be better, as don't forget, not everyone has broadband, but plenty will have or will invest in a home console to play this, something more positive for the industry.

Harmonix really have to sort out their business, and get Rock Band over to Japan too. Why the fuck do they need a japan version (okay I know why, space and people to play it, but humour me), since the majority of japanese people know of and love the Beatles, it might sell itself. Harmonix should be pushing that like crack out there. Hell, some might learn some english too.

Mind you, given how they blatantly left out some fan favourites in TB:RB to later add them on as DLC I'm going to be weary... At least wait until the song list is out before I decide.
