Here'a novel thought: you buy a game which contains a complete story beginning to end, and the DLC is truly an expansion rather stuff that should have come on the disc in the first place. Wow, really? I like the way this is sounding ... and it seems like that may be just the case with Heavy Rain, if what Quantic Dream is saying could possibly be true.
Quantic Dream founder Henry Cage recently commented on this, saying the studio is currently in talks with Sony about DLC for the game. In an interview with Videogamer:
"It's a self-contained experience. We won't release the end of the game as DLC that you need to pay for. The game has all the scenes it's supposed to have. It's a complete story ... but we are talking with Sony at the moment about having maybe extra downloadable content, maybe with prequels or sequels about the characters. I'm sure people will get attached to some of them and will want to know them even better."
Cage also mentioned that the game will have some online features, but not multiplayer, focusing on the fact that the game is still a single player experience. He also describes the Heavy Rain experience as lasting 8-10 hours in total. Some people consider that to not be enough gameplay for the price -- do you?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I digress, but from what I've heard about the game, it looks like something that would be best enjoyed in a single sitting and then played again at a later date differently, so I think it's fine.
... as long as the game is different each time
I think Heavy Rain is a game you have to play several times to explore the story variations, so if that's 8-10 hours per play-through, that's pretty huge. (although I doubt it)
That said, if Heavy Rain is as good as it's being hyped to be, more Heavy Rain can never be a bad thing. Just...why do you expect us to pay extra for what you could have put on the disc?
And with regard to the gameplay time, Resident Evil 5 was like a grand total of 6 hours, but was a hell of a lot of fun. This game's length doesnt seem to matter as much, as it looks like it is designed for multiple playthroughs, so arguing over gameplay time on the first playthrough is a bit silly. Unless, you know, you dont like story variations and what if scenarios.
