Can't say I'm terribly excited about this game but I might check it out. Any FPS that isn't a brown & bloom, military shooter has my attention.
Frontline: Fuels of War
Brink
Unreal Tournament 3
Starhawk
Section 8 Prejudice
All of these games have something in common. Their single player campaigns are lazy, uninspired train wrecks that have ZERO business being called a single player campaign.
Old pre Half Life shooters are actually fun. Exploring a level and basically figuring out how to solve it while fighting all sorts of different enemies and managing/gaming the resources at your disposal is fun. These games were at a perfect intermediary in-between being linear and open; they are open enough that you take your own route through a level but they're not so open that they become tedious and time consuming to navigate. They have weapons that are fun to use and enemies that are fun to shoot. Why is actual gameplay considered outdated? When did mind numbing repetition and tedium become considered highly enjoyable?
That said, I am kind of wary about speedy shooters with thumbsticks after Quake Arena on XBLA
I WANT THIS NEW ONE SO HARD.
The original Rise of the Triad was the first game I ever saw that had special things happen during holidays.
It also had my favorite missile launcher ever, the Drunk Missile.
I think that's only true because people believe it. "Wider audiences" aren't complete retards, it's just that publishers and journalists treat them as such, and that became the norm by now.
I have a problem with this whole concept. I can understand if you call a game "aged" if it tried something new and didn't really get it right, but simple concepts cannot age. Different ones are fashionable in different times, but it's not as set in stone as publishers and similar think.
Shareware? Cause that's seriously how I remember it, lol.
