Quake Live beta opens up for all to enjoy early next week photo

Falling under the free-to-play, ad-supported business model, Quake Live is about as terrific as you could have hoped for. While it's essentially just Quake III Arena in your browser, that's more than enough to satisfy me and I'm sure many of you too.

Starting on Tuesday, February 24, id Software will be allowing any and all interested gamers to play the Quake Live beta. There's even a nice little Web site complete with a countdown for the occasion.

A word of warning: all stats will be wiped on Tuesday, and anyone who was involved with the closed beta but has failed to play in the last 28 days will lose their account. Which reminds me, I should probably go jump in a quick match sooner than later.

I got accepted about a month ago, finally played some of it last week. It was, essentially, just a lot of people who are way too skilled for their own good, and me, who completely sucks at FPSes on PC. Other than that, it was neat.

Hands down the best browser game ever. Of course, it's also one of the best games ever, period, but that's besides the point, because even as a browser game it suprasses the original in everyway.

Except for its lack of mod support, which is understndable given the circumstances.

I, for one, welcome the return of our old deathmatch overlords.

Basically same as Sharpless, My big gripe is, initial log in, beta log in, extra log the process to just get an account started made me not want to sign up at all, Plus the fact i have to go through all that AGAIN. Fuck it, I'll play tf2,qw, and l4d till I die.

So if we lose our private beta account will we need to recreate another one for the open beta?

i'm part of the beta too. it's amazing that they got the game to work in JUST A BROWSER! makes me wonder the future of gaming might just be streaming on the net, especially if you can get 3d graphics like this.

hope to see you all in the open beta.
