Puru Puru! DUALSHOCK 3 Launches in North America this week photo

Sony sends word that the rumbleriffic, all caps-loving DUALSHOCK 3 controller for the PlayStation 3 will be landing on the shelves of North American retailers this week.

For only $54.99, you get all the motion sensing of the SIXAXIS as well as the rumble you know and love from the PlayStation 2 days. Of course, they'd like to remind you that their new contoller works fine and rumbles hard in the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which launches in about two weeks.

There's about 30 PS3 titles that support the vibration feature. All of the old PS one titles already work. You may find that a software update is required for some games, and Sony says that you'll be prompted to download this update after starting these titles.

Also, the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle is packed with a DUALSHOCK 3, though that does nothing for current PS3 owners.

What about you? Are you picking up a couple of DUALSHOCK 3 controllers this week? Did you already import one or two? What are you doing with your old ones?

Hit the jump to see the list of rumble-supported PS3 titles.

I've got two 'old' controllers. I might buy two 'new' ones.

There isn't an auto-off but it sounds like your battery is fucked. You can order a new one for ... I don't know but it isn't much. Look on the PS3 website they even tell you how to do it.

The only thing I play is UT3 so uh no.
I will not be wasting money on a controller when mine works perfectly fine.

Now, if someone wants to buy said controller for me...i would gladly accept.

Sadie, no one is going to buy you a controller because your just going to shoot them in the face with it.

It's kinda sad when you have to have a list telling you what games are rumble compatible.

I imported last year. Works fine for me. No auto off on the battery though, so keep an eye on it.

I average about 1 charge a month for the PS3 controller, which is fine given how often I play games on it.

Compare that to the 360's batteries, which get charged about once a week.

I really want this to work with a PS2. I need an official wireless controller for that thing.

What the fuck is with controllers costing so much? $54 for a single controller? Hell no. $60 for a wiimote and nunchuck? Bullshit. $50 for a wireless 360? Bullhellnoshit.

Seriously, controllers cost way too much.

I'm going to begrudgingly pick up one. I already have 2 sixaxis's but only because of a glitch in the PS3 that didn't let it recognize my first controller until I plugged a 2nd one in (FOILED!). For me, the lack of rumble has been one of the main factors against the PS3 when I'm deciding which multi-plat game I get.

I have the white one as well, I would not call it rumble I'd say it was more like a Pulse.

Imported a white one last year through DVDdesign. Works like a charm. I think it might even have a slightly better life than the SixAxiS, but I've not really tested it. I think that the DS3 is a little lighter on the rumble than the 360 controller and a lot heavier than the wiimote rumble.

This controller is really good tough. The extra weight it put on with the rumble makes it feel very solid in your hands which is great IMO.

Assassin's Creed didn't work with it though, which was a major disappointment for me.

Santa Barbara is a bit poor on the electronics side. Where the fuck do people get their electronics around here?!

Sigh... I hate this city...

54.99!?!? Are you effing serious, so it's 2 years late, 5 bucks more expensive than the 360 controller and will probably still lose sync and ruin my game of Super Stardust HD. Thanks Sony.

Oh, and it will run out of power ever few days because it doesn't shut itself off after I fall asleep watching Planet Earth.

As long as new games won't require vibration (MGS4...etc) I won't be buying a a new controller as I never liked rumble in the 1st place.

Got mine a few months ago, love it. The extra weight alone made it worth it. Battery life is the same, I have to charge it about once every week or 2 depending how much I play which is the same as no rumble.

I’d love to have one, really, but I just don’t feel like blowing $55 + tax and/or shipping on a damn controller. (And by “don’t feel like blowing”, I mean “can’t afford to blow”.) I’ll wait until I see it somewhere at a lower price.

I don't actually care for the D-Shock. Since losing the rumble on my PS2 pad years ago, I haven't really missed it at all. Still if I have to buy a new controller in the future then I guess it might be a nice addition.

So I assume that if your PS3 has PS2 backwards compatibility, it works for those games too?

Pre-ordered one a few weeks back on amazon, all that's left now is to convince my siblings to buy my 40GB PS3 from me so that I can get the MGS4 bundle.
