Punch-Out!! returns! First screens and video of new Wii sequel

Remember the recent rumor that Nintendo was going to announce a retro revival "everyone was waiting for" at its press conference this morning? Well, there are arguably several games that could describe this (nice job, Nintendo!), but I am assuming the mega company was referring to its reveal that Punch-Out!! is coming to the Wii.

Was "everyone" waiting for this? I’m not sure, but I do know I am currently one happy mo-fo that is jumping up and down with glee in front of his computer. Punch-Out!! is one of my favorite Nintendo franchises of all time and its inclusion on the Wii is awesome and, honestly, pretty inevitable.

As you can see by the above video and gallery screens, not much has changed: Little Mac is back and he will be fighting a variety of fighters in an incredibly refreshing, nostalgic art style. While I would sell my first born to find out the list of all the fighters, it seems weakling Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and extra massive King Hippo are the only ones confirmed (could this be a remake of the original?).

Enough chit-chat. What do you all think? Was this the retro revival you were hoping for? Do you like the updated look? How do you think the game will control (Wiimote/Balance Board combo?)? Which classic Punch-Out!! fighter would you love to see make a grand return?

After seeing an updated model for Little Mac included in SSBB, I had a feeling that this was in the works. Looks great though. Hope it's not a poorly-responsive wagglefest like Wii Sports Boxing though. >.>

I think it looks good, but it seems like it's pretty early in development. I could be wrong, but that's just what it looks like as far as the animation and stuff goes. I'm really excited for it though.

Normally when I wake up, I drive my siblings to school, return home and sleep for another two hours before class.

While waiting for them to get ready, I made my internet rounds and saw the announcement of this. No words could describe the smile that came across my face, and needless to say that it kept me awake for that two hours.

What can I say other than I love it. It looks amazing and it seems to be staying faithful to its roots.

But if I had to be honest, while I love the classic route they seem to be taking, I was sort of hoping they'd go in a different direction. Maybe I'm just looking for more than pattern memorization this time around.

Anyway, it's too early to be bitching about this kind of stuff. Here's hoping that they have one ass kicking boss however.

Here's what I want: NO WIIMOTE controls. Or at least an option to turn them off.

ALSO: Soda Popinski needs to make his return as Vodka Drunkenski.

Most of these games were on paper at E3, and they wanted to give us a little taste of what we're gonna buy the rest of 2008 and 2009. I still love you NINTENDO, please don't scare me like last E3 again.
