who would be dumb enough to do this?
the publisher pays nothing, does nothing, and receives money
find me the illusive "logic" here
I'm not surprised either; just like the word indie being applied to blatantly not independent titles in an attempt to garner credibility, people will take advantage of anything that could improve their profits. It's the real-life equivalent of bug exploitation. I'm really looking forward to the Kickstarter firmware update.
So not paying attention doesn't cut it anymore. Playing Guild Wars 2 instead though does.
I can see where whodatninja is coming from. The whole Kickstarter concept is like...it's like someone went out of their way to develop the most glaring security flaw that they possibly could. I mean, literally all you have to do is talk people into giving you money. That's even worse than hacking because at least hacking involves work.
:3
If that's the case then people are looking at Kicstarter all wrong. People look at it as a pre-sale full of goodness and niceness, which is the wrong thing to do. It's an investment, and just like any investment there is a strong possibility of losing everything. No one should put anything into a Kickstarter project that they wouldn't otherwise be willing to lose at a casino. There's nothing shady about that, and if it ever does become routinely shady it will collapse from people abandoning it.
Like Bethesda/Zenimax or whoever?
Well yeah, that's how people should see it...I have to wonder how it functions in reality though. I mean, I can see how the entire format is just begging to be taken advantage of. All it needs for short-term individual success is a good salesman, whether he has anything worth selling or not.
>if it ever does become routinely shady it will collapse from people abandoning it.
True that.
Possibly but i dont think Zenimax needs to be as cheap and underhanded as that.
Most likley its becuse if they drop names they will have a real hard time to get work with any publishers after that.
EA
Activision/Blizzard(Hate using the word Blizzard with Activision...)
Ubisoft.
@ZeroDown
Quite possible though he could simply be confidential with the name because he just wants to keep a professional attitude.
You're right dude, we should blame EA for everything.
Because they're the publisher that gaming deserves, but not the one it needs right now. And so we'll hunt them. Because they can take it.
^v^
Meh...I'm just not surprised that any publisher wouldn't see the advantages of using Kickstarter as opposed to the traditional model, especially for smaller games that carry a fair bit of risk.
I personally laugh at everyone I see throwing money like a fucktard. Especially when it concerns the gaming industry. You know the same industry loves and relishes the chance to butt fuck you? That same industry. Complacent fools.
Get mad. You should be -- at yourself.
Blaming a company for wanting to continue abusing morons for easy, quick, cold cash? Ha-ha-ha-ha! These same morons are the ones defending this shitty industry at every turn. They're just upset because, in their mind it's only for hipsters, and indie wannabes. Aw! So precious. Ha-ha-ha-ha! Totally worth the laughs today.
People are mad at *publishers* not developers. You're also drawing a lot of strange conclusions and while I can not speak for anyone this is how I see the climate of the current games industry and why many are upset at it:
IPs which once belonged to individuals and studios now belong to publishing companies. Publishers are able to make creative choices without actually being artists, writers, and programmers. See where I'm going with this?
Publishers, which serve no purpose in the creative process, now own and manage the creative process.
Why? I think people would still pretty much buy their games. Gamers are, well, tools.
My money's on EA, they're outta fucking control.
Can you explain why people are stupid for using Kickstarter for games? People put money down on a game that they want to see developed, and if it pans out, they get the game. How is it stupid to throw money out there when you are investing in something you want to see created?
You provide no evidence or support for why you believe what you are saying.
