We might not be getting any free games for the PSPgo in North America, but Sony's making sure there will be plenty of stuff to spend our money on. It's been revealed that 16,000 pieces of DLC will be available for the PSP on October 1. That's a lot, by the way.
The content includes 225 downloadable games (PSP titles, PSN exclusives, UMD legacy titles and Minis), 2,300 movies and 13,300 television episodes. In addition, game cards will hit retailers, allowing customers to make in-store purchases and then download the titles when they get home. Ironically, you could spend trade-in money on those cards, thus quasi-beating the objective of a digital platform. I'm a fan of that.
A number of big-name PSP titles will hit the PlayStation Store on October 1, including God of War: Chains of Olympus, Gran Turismo and SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny.
I'll give Sony credit where it's due -- that's a lot of content, and it's nice to see Sony giving more support to the PSP on one day than it's given in the past five years. Still, I wonder how much money people are willing to spend after already dropping $250 on a handheld console.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But that is a lot of content. Too bad they have still yet to get the Canadian Video Store up yet.
FUCK I hate spending money.
Know what I hate? That the PSN Store sometimes doesn't have any games in their updates on Thursdays.
UMD Legacy is a section of the PS Store that holds older PSP games that have been made digital. Shit like Killzone: Liberation is in there.
If those games get lowered in price then the Go may just have a chance.
I'm quite satisfied.
I can't bloody wait for October 1st.
Maybe in a couple years it will be cheaper and my psp-1000 will have lived out its usefulness.
Seriously though, I hope 5.55 gets opened up soon, I can't play Persona PSP (UMD or Digital) without it!
Look up how to modify version.txt. That may help you with tricking the games into thinking they're being run on newer firmware.
Now, if it had dual analog sticks, I'd be there day one. Since it doesn't... eh, I'll hold off until it does.
Seriously, though, do we really need to watch that much TV on the go? Most of the time, when I watch TV on my PSP, my primary concern is whether this is bad for my hearing, because I have to turn it up way higher than I would for music. TV isn't exactly designed to be consumed as little bite-sized pieces.
Even.
Close.
S O N Y.
You gotta bring real, actual goods to the table to get real gamers to bite. Not just numbers. We've been fooled by numbers too many times to trust them implicitly.
I should stop speaking for the collective, I apologize.
I have been fooled too many times by numbers to trust them implicitly.
However, knowing Sony, it wouldn't be at a decreased price, like most things should be with Digital Distribution methods.
It will be much less considering that Sony PR will come out and say "We are of the lack of games in some smaller markets. This is due to licensing."
Whoo-hoo....
All it needed to hook me was the ability to transfer my 20+ UMD collection into digital format- but now apparently that isn't happening, so no sale for me. I'm a collectorfag, and I loathe the idea of paying money for digital content (especially when it COSTS THE SAME AS A FUCKING PHYSICAL COPY) If I could buy PSP games in UMD format and then convert them, then that's another story but it seems Sony has been too lazy to provide the ability to do so. So fuck them.
Am I the only one in this position? Surely not.
