PSPgo will launch with 225 games & 16,000 DLC pieces photo

We might not be getting any free games for the PSPgo in North America, but Sony's making sure there will be plenty of stuff to spend our money on. It's been revealed that 16,000 pieces of DLC will be available for the PSP on October 1. That's a lot, by the way.

The content includes 225 downloadable games (PSP titles, PSN exclusives, UMD legacy titles and Minis), 2,300 movies and 13,300 television episodes. In addition, game cards will hit retailers, allowing customers to make in-store purchases and then download the titles when they get home. Ironically, you could spend trade-in money on those cards, thus quasi-beating the objective of a digital platform. I'm a fan of that.

A number of big-name PSP titles will hit the PlayStation Store on October 1, including God of War: Chains of Olympus, Gran Turismo and SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny

I'll give Sony credit where it's due -- that's a lot of content, and it's nice to see Sony giving more support to the PSP on one day than it's given in the past five years. Still, I wonder how much money people are willing to spend after already dropping $250 on a handheld console.

....which is followed by 3 weeks of barren updates on the PSN Store :P

But that is a lot of content. Too bad they have still yet to get the Canadian Video Store up yet.

Somehow, in some insane bloody retarded way, this has me hyped for the PSPgo.

FUCK I hate spending money.

Know what I hate? That the PSN Store sometimes doesn't have any games in their updates on Thursdays.

"wtf is a "UMD Legacy" title... isn't that just a psp game?"

UMD Legacy is a section of the PS Store that holds older PSP games that have been made digital. Shit like Killzone: Liberation is in there.

I still think the Go is a ridculously stupid idea but DAMN! That's alot of games O_O

If those games get lowered in price then the Go may just have a chance.

I'm getting a free 20-€-PSN card in addition to a free copy of GTPSP and 3 other games(not sure about these).

I'm quite satisfied.

I can't bloody wait for October 1st.

...and for original PSP owners with homebrew, there are 1000000000 pieces of DLC available.

Man, I really like the looks of the PSPGo and want one, but I can't justify my purchase at this time since it doesn't really add anything hardware wise, minus the bigger storage.

Maybe in a couple years it will be cheaper and my psp-1000 will have lived out its usefulness.

Hm. That IS a lot of games. I can't wait until the custom firmware is out :D

Seriously though, I hope 5.55 gets opened up soon, I can't play Persona PSP (UMD or Digital) without it!

@unangbangkay

Look up how to modify version.txt. That may help you with tricking the games into thinking they're being run on newer firmware.

@Sneaker: Sorry, I've heard that doesn't work (both Persona and Disgaea 2 apparently look for files, instead of just trusting the version the device reports). But if I'm wrong, do tell me. D:

I got this feeling that this weeks PSN update is doomed. I know most of the content mentioned is already up on the store but those morons have trouble getting way smaller updates live.

While I recognize 225 titles as a lot for a single day and for a system launch, I really would prefer knowing what the launch titles were. We all know that there is not going to be 225 brand new games to buy with the PSP Go from day one but rather a lot of those titles are simply ports of UMD games, but I haven't seen anything about exclusive content for the PSP to commemorate the launch. Is it a Grand Turismo? a new God of War? A Ratchet and Clank? what exactly will I want to buy the day the PSP Go comes out that seperates it from the 3000?

It seems the main reason the PSPgo was launched was the enormous amount of homebrew stuff that was being done with the old system and this is their counter offensive to try and stop it. Will it succeed is anyone's guess but they are going to great lengths to keep things under their own control. Also maybe it saves them on UMD making? I dont know. All I know is I will be sticking with my 2000 for now until its out and I can see whats what.

I really want a Go, but at the same time, I'll be able to use most if not all of that stuff on my 2000 model, right!? So why upgrade when I already have a 16gb memory card and a PSP that will play that that coolness on the PSN.

Now, if it had dual analog sticks, I'd be there day one. Since it doesn't... eh, I'll hold off until it does.

OMG Sterling is praising Sony = MY HEAD ASPLODE

Seriously, though, do we really need to watch that much TV on the go? Most of the time, when I watch TV on my PSP, my primary concern is whether this is bad for my hearing, because I have to turn it up way higher than I would for music. TV isn't exactly designed to be consumed as little bite-sized pieces.

Let me think about this one. I can watch either 50" or 40" HDTV or DirectTV on iPhone anywhere, now why do I need PSP Go again?

I'd be much happier if more than, say, 1.5% of those 16k things were games. Still, a nice amount of content.

The PSPgo is pretty cool and all, but it's not really for me. Anyone (like me) who has a PSP-1000 with a decently large number of UMD titles, the ideal upgrade/replacement (IMO) is the PSP-3000. Considering the lack of an exchange program for UMDs and preference for physical media over digital media (if I had the choice), 3000>PSPgo.

I should stop speaking for the collective, I apologize.

Thats's nice and all, but as someone who doesn't own a PSP I still don't see the reason for paying more money for the PSPgo when I can get the PSP 3000 for cheaper.

"UMD legacy" are games that were on UMD. God of war would be one. Super stardust or echocrome wouldn't be one.

I'd like to see Dissidia hit the store, then I might purchase it.

However, knowing Sony, it wouldn't be at a decreased price, like most things should be with Digital Distribution methods.

So the EU only gets less than 225 pieces of DLC considering we don't have a movies section.
It will be much less considering that Sony PR will come out and say "We are of the lack of games in some smaller markets. This is due to licensing."

Meh. There's DLC for the PSP already on the store. What I want to know is how much of this supposed 16k pieces is going to be content that is actually new to PSN. Also would totally not be surprised if they tossed a bunch of PS1 games up on PSN to beef up their numbers.

I'd be interested in this if not for the fact that I'm Canadian. So for us it will mean 225 pieces of DLC. No movies. No television.

Whoo-hoo....

I'm not sold on the Go at all.

All it needed to hook me was the ability to transfer my 20+ UMD collection into digital format- but now apparently that isn't happening, so no sale for me. I'm a collectorfag, and I loathe the idea of paying money for digital content (especially when it COSTS THE SAME AS A FUCKING PHYSICAL COPY) If I could buy PSP games in UMD format and then convert them, then that's another story but it seems Sony has been too lazy to provide the ability to do so. So fuck them.

Am I the only one in this position? Surely not.

yeah but how much of those 16 000 pieces will make it to Europe? My guess is none of the movies or TV-shows... so leaving us with about 2500 units, which still isn't SO bad... but still...

Heres the point where if they start hyping the 16 GB of space the Go has as well as this, they might do alright with it. Its not gonna cost a whole lot more for a Go than a PSP-3000 and a 16 GB mem stick duo does, and with this much stuff to download, people will want the space. Its still totally pointless for anyone who still has a PSP to upgrade, of course.
