PSPgo games as cheap as iPhone apps? It could be photo

Worried about blowing money on that pricey new PSPgo that's coming out soon? Well, I can't say I blame you, especially if you already own a PSP, but if you're a gadget whore (coughDaleNorth) and feel you can't live without it, I do have a shred of good news for you: it seems like the games for it could be pretty cheap, if a recent report from Pocket Gamer is any indication.

The report says that PSPgo titles will be priced at 1,2, and 5 euros, making the buying of games pretty painless. In fact, it's also been reported that Sony has been busy working with iPhone developers to bring ports of current titles to the PSPgo. While we already had an idea about the pricing structure back in June, this certainly adds more fuel to that fire. We ought to know more around Gamescom time, as it's heavily suspected we'll hear major announcements then.

Would cheap games influence your desire to buy the PSPgo? Does it somehow ease the pain of that $250 price tag for you?

I suppose it depends on how many games you want for the PSP. After 5-6 games or so, those savings could definitely lessen the sting of being an early adopter. Either way, any price cut is a good price cut!

So, are we talking PSP ports of other PSN games? Because I don't see how games that we once $30 to $40 can be suddenly dropped to a mere fraction of the cost.

All they need to do is announce Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and I can assure you that there will be a PspGo in my hands on Oct. 1st.

why wouldn't they bring "cheap games" to current PSP's? Is there a new app that is being released with the PSP that makes it exclusive to downloadable content on PSN?

Considering that my PSP just managed to die, and that I love buying iPhone games (mostly because they are in this brilliant price range) this opens up the Go! as an option for me. Still dont know how much it'll cost in NZ, though.

What Shawnzzy said.

I will be buying one ASAP and will be playing many hours of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on it, and if my current PSP use is anything to go by, not much else.

It's not a PSP to me, it's a MHM (Monster Hunter Machine)

God that game is like crack.

@megastryke:

Well, if it wasn't for retailers (and greed :/), digital distribution would mean lower costs for games, as it is esentially free money for the seller. No physical copies to manufacture, no shipping costs, unlimited suppy...

Now, so far DD games have remained at the usual price (except for some awesome Steam weekend deals :D) because if they were lowered the retailers would start a riot.

So it's POSSIBLE that they mean regular games could be this cheap. not likely so long as retailers still exist though.

I'm all for affordable games.
If they bring the quality of some iPhone titles to PSP it will be great!

If they offered PSP games on the cheap - I'd probably shell out for a PSP Go, if it was comparable - there really isn't a reason for me to even get somewhat excited about this overpriced lesser unit.

If they're intending to offer the same garbage that floods the iPhone app store, they can keep it. No one should willing pay for awful games even if they are only 1 euro.

Also, I doubt it's going to be "real" games because that would essentially ensure PSP (and Sony) get on the blacklist from the B&M stores for undercutting them.

Digital dist. is not going to make game prices go down. People have pretty theories as to why they should, but that won't happen in the real world.

Additionally, why would I need a pspgo to play ports of iphone games? I've got an iphone to do that, and most of the games that are well designed for the platform use the touchscreen. Sony's still dumb, and this just reeks of me too.

what they should do is release an easy dev engine (like unity has for iphone) and devkits, what makes the app thing popular on iphone is that anybody who wants to can dev for it and sell their app for a few bucks. To a certain degree it is similar to what made that PC so much more adopted than the mac- more devs means more apps more apps means more uses more uses means more popular-

While I agree with Jamn, I really can't see Apple letting the people who make the games for their little pocket game machine just go and start porting everything to the PSPGo. I mean, Apple is touting the iTouch and so on as a gaming device, and removing said games would pretty much leave Apple up a creek.

Not to say that I don't want that to happen, but...=P

As long as free things can still pop up as downloadables, I'm fine with it.

So pricing that is competitive with iPhone games. Does that mean games will be of the same quality as what we are seeing on iPhone, so there won't be much worth buying? I have a hard time believing they can drop the price of normal games that much, especially considering the (presumably) small install base when compared to iPhone.

I'm interested, but Sony needs to fix their LAME ASS PSN on México.

At this moment they update with little to no content ONCE a month, and the only way to add funds to the PSN is with the awful PSN Cards that they don't even sell almost anywhere. So if you want to buy some DLC you need to go to an online store, buy a very expensive card and wait a week so you can buy something on the PSN.

And even then they charge the dollar 56% more expensive than Apple does. Of course Apple charges the Dollar too cheap, actually, but even nintendo charges the dollar 20% less expensive than sony does.

Apple proved that selling video games at a low price point through an easy distribution model makes big profits. Now all sony needs to do is some kinda SDK for indie developers.

Would be nice if they could show us some of these few dollar games, especially before people start buying the handheld.

Hmmmm if this turns out as I imagine, it could rival the NintendoDSi as for how you get the games, because if we will to pay 250 flops for it, the library better be at least great.

The PSP library is already great. And don't forget that a 16gb stick costs a bundle (at least 40-50$) so in the end I think it's not such a bad deal
