For those looking for a hard copy of Echochrome on the PlayStation Portable, now might be a good time to start checking Play-Asia's stock. LevelUp was able to exclusively confirm that when the game comes to North America, it will only be available as a digital download via the PlayStation Network. The game is currently available on UMD in Japan and Asia.

We recently ran our own review of Echochrome for the PSP, and our reviewer -- the illustrious Brad "Dick McVengeance" Rice -- liked it so much he gave it an 8.5, branding it with our "Buy it!" stamp. I actually spoke to one person yesterday who said that they imported the game based on that review alone -- did you?

No word on when Echochrome will make its way to North America, but I hope it happens before I break down and import it myself.

Awesome, another UMD that won't collect dust after loading it onto my memory stick and never using it again.

That's pretty odd, after playing the PC and PS3 version I'll be getting it for sure.

Well, I suppose that's fine, as I was thinking of getting it on PS3 anyways.

Does anyone know of the importable (not sure if that's a word) version has English available?

The Japanese version has full English menus and everything.

I think the UMD version has more levels and stuff, too, so the lack of a US UMD release kinda sucks.

So doesn't that mean that we can get it for both the PS3 and the PSP?

*cough*import*cough*

Seriously, import it. Like tsunamikitsune said, it's all in English. Best game to import now, aside from Space Invaders Extreme. Excellent mashup of M.C. Escher and Lemmings.

I just wish I could figure out exactly how the fucking perspective jump works in this game. Otherwise, it's awesome.

@galagabug
It really doesn't fit on a 32MB card.

it is all right- I personally liked crush (or portal for that matter for different perspective gameplay)a lot better, the atmosphere is interesting with the strange classical music and all, but in my opinion, one thing that echocrome lacks is a cohesive goal in the game- it feels like a puzzler with no solution- just lots of cool perspective physics thrown into one shot scenes

Buy the UMD if you're that hardset on having a physical copy (like I am). Honestly though, this is only limiting Sony in the US, because I know a whole lot of people who don't have PS3s yet have PSPs and want to play this game. I broke down and got someone to oder it for me for my birthday, but I bet you that 9/10 of those people who fall into the have psp with no ps3 are going to simply resort to running a .cso/.iso of it, and Sony won't see profit. Sony's got no one to blame for this but themselves if the sales are poor.

On the related note of how big is this download going to be, I can tell you it's not going to fit on the starter 32MB card. Viewing the ISO from my PSP (God I love the setting that mounts my UMD as USB :D) it falls just shy of 130 MB. That's .iso, .cso will probably shave a few MB, but god knows what kind of compression Sony will put on it.

Wait, is the Playstation store available directly on the PSP now? Or does no PS3 = no Echochrome on PSP?

@ HarassmentPanda.

I think it's the latter, by the sounds of it. We can do remote play I guess, and access it from there.

what Im wondering though is if a firned buys it on a PS3, can we simply download it from their PS3?

or I may just grab the UMD version, if that has more content. If that's not the case though, then I'll totally go for a digital version.
