PSP version of Devil May Cry you didn't know about canned? photo

According to the latest issue of the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Capcom has shelved its plans to release Devil May Cry for the PlayStation Portable.

Wait, what? Was that even ever announced? Well, yeah... back in 2005. At the time, the PSP had recently launched, and Capcom had been talking plans to bring multiple franchises to Sony's handheld, among them Devil May Cry. It's 2009, and obviously, that's never happened. In fact, Capcom hasn't really said anything about it since 2005, save for a passing mention (which no longer appears) on Capcom's Japanese Web site.

If Famitsu is to be believed, the game was in production at some point, and has now been canceled permanently. We've reached out to Capcom to ask them "WTF?", and they pretty much nodded at us, confirming that the game was mentioned briefly in 2005, and then never again.

We think it's pretty safe to assume that we won't be playing as Dante, Nero, Vergil, or some other cool dude in a leather jacket on the PSP any time soon.

This actually makes me quite sad. After seeing how good Chains of Olympus played on the PSP, I was very eager for Dante to make a party get crazy on the PSP.

I'm betting it was maybe a port of the original, or maybe it was a totally new game, oh well.

I have some vague recollection of this announcement, and assumed it was canceled since not much has been said since the original announcement. Have they finally canceled Gran Turismo on the PSP too? That's been "in development" since like 2004.

I would have loved a Devil May Cry on the go.

DMC PSP would have been god if they made it when they were working on DMC3, if they brought in the DMC4 dev team though... Not as good.

Shame, this and Gran Turismo PSP are vaporware. The only thing that can respark vast interest in the PSP is Final Fantasy Dissidia, Final Fantasy 13 Agito, and the Kingdom Hearts game.

Capcom is too busy counting the money Monster Hunter is making them on the PSP to care about other franchises.

I shiver to think how bad the camera would have been...

Especially in Boss fights.

Never knew, and don't care.

I have enough trouble already with the camera in DMC already. Playing it on the PSP would just make it more difficult, and I HATE squinting.

I've heard about plans for a DMC for the PSP as early as 2004 before the PSP came out.

Never got into DMC though had this come out that probably would have been my cue.
