Do you keep up with ObsCure? It's a co-op survival horror series that has pretty much been ignored for various reasons, most of them relating to the fact that the game is only partly interesting. The entire concept behind co-op survival horror is a bit suspect as is. Isn't the point to be alone in your suspense (no one bring up RE5 or we're all sitting down for a nice long lecture on what survival horror is)? Still, the concept could also work really well, as you and another player share your fear, and so ObsCure: The Aftermath returns for another try.

Having originally landed on the Wii, PS2 and PC ObsCure: The Aftermath is now being ported over to the PSP, and you can watch the trailer for it above. You can tell the game is on the PSP because all the gameplay is shown on a PSP screen. Nothing like some piss poor trailer making for your weekend, huh? The game will still be co-op and claims to have maintained its graphical prowess, which is clearly not true from the trailer above, but whatever. If you're in the mood to try something a bit different, this could be a decent enough ticket.

Multiplayer-oriented PSP games just don't work in the West.

If you can get it cheap, it's actually quite entertaining.

The voice acting is noteworthy for being terrible but at least they fucking tried and you can tell, which makes it enjoyably ridiculous.

I actually had a lot of fun with the first one. Alternately making fun of it and genuinely enjoying it made for a good time.

Perhaps I'll do that with the sequel as well. I've been meaning to pick it up for a while now.

On the front page comment recap, your italics don't show up.
It looks like you said "but at least they fucking and you can tell..."

I lol'd. Repeatedly.
And what was funny was your comment was a complete thought when I jumped into the post to check your comment out.

Good times.

For a moment I thought there was a third Obscure game I never heard of...

I didn't know Obscure II was called Obscure: The Aftermath in other countries!

"Survival horror" is a cute name Capcom made up for Alone in the Dark-style adventure game.

The DS is supposed to get a Obscure game, "Obscure: Dark Aura".

Survival horror is a stupid term. Horror does the job well enough.

It's not like there is a bunch of horror games where the aim of the game is to not survive. Actually that could be a good twist on the genre, a game where you die as fast as possible in a range of different situations.

They just add the word survival because you're not just fighting scary things, you're fighting a terrible control scheme which is your only chance for survival.

I really wish they made a good co-op survival horror game for the consoles, Outbreak had potential, but the PS2 online was lacking to fallow through on it.

I always thought the survival bit was because of the limited ammo/life packs/saves or whatever.

I played the first game with a friend. The fact that when you die the character is killed and the game keeps going I thought was pretty interesting plus the whole co op thing works well. If only it had better writing and less generic locales it could have made a real impact.

The first Obscure was a decent survival horror title. Nothing fancy, but it did the job and had a cool tongue-in-cheek vibe.

Obscure 2 was a complete mess though. The devs took the whole thing too seriously. Ham-fisted social commentary and some appalling choices in an effort to be 'mature'. When you use something as serious as suicide as way of stopping a player select a character...you're in the wrong business. I'm not going to start on the needless rape sub-plot.

I loved the first game, but I wished the second never happened.

This is the first time I've ever heard about it. Their marketing team must suck.

The wonky music at the trailer (esp. the horrible faux-choir-thingie) could instantly turn off some but I might get into this as I have been in need for a portable horror game anyway, good or otherwise (at least, not downright terrible).

I enjoyed Obscure 2 on PS2, They have some nice puzzles and campy B monster movie script.

Couples kissing on a bridge while camera spinning around them, checked.
