PSP Minis are confirmed for PS3 with new firmware photo

I've got a few PSP Minis in my collection now, and I've often thought it would be nice to also play them on the PS3. I love that whole added value thing I get with the PSOne Classics titles, and adding the same functionality would probably help Sony more more Mini games.

Sony has confirmed that the new firmware update coming this month will add the ability to play the little PSP titles on your PS3. After the update, simply go to the PlayStation Store and download that Mini onto your PS3. No word on how these games will looked scaled up, but I'm not expecting miracles here. Again, I still play the PSOne games. They look nasty sometimes.

Also coming with Firmware update 3.15 is the ability to send data from one PS3 to another. Nifty for those upgrading or adding a second system.

The data transfer utility is a great idea. Looks like its time to ditch the ol' 60gig and get me a slim.

That data transfer sounds very handy indeed!

I'm looking to get a new PS3 when moving to Uni (the one I have now is shared with brothers) and i've been worried about data transfer... this solves everything!

Oh and I'll be buying Blast Off =D
(do you see minis as PS3s equivalent to Community games?)

@ Onlineatron:

Apparently according to the ps blog post: Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3

So I guess if you want to use both systems you're going to have to redownload and reactivate the old system then go through the process of reinstalling all the games.

If they made it so you could play normal PSP games on the PS3 as well, it might help them shift some PSPGo's.

Although it probably wouldn't help that much, given the stupidly high price of the console and the stupidly high price of the games.

@Sexualchocolate:

Yeah it'll work, I'm selling my 60gig after I transfer everything off it though.

@Sexualchocolate yes and no. It won't copy your game saves that are copy-protected. Well, it will, but it won't restore them onto any system other than the one that you created the backup from. Which is stupid. That's why this new feature exists.

Cool, I backed mine up before sending it for repair (BR drive died) but just remembered I didn't need to use the backup as it came back with all the content still there.

So my advise in invalid.

Still I don't know about those "locked" saves.

Blast Off is a must own IMO. Tetris too but then again I'm a tetris addict.

I'm not sure I understand. Does this mean I could buy a full fledged PSP game from the store, without having a PSP, and playit right on my PS3?

Is this only Mini's, or if they have, like, God of War PSP on the store, could I buy that, stand alone?

Okay so...I have 2 ps3's but I want to upgrade the hard drive of one of them. Could I...theoretically...install the new hard drive on one of the ps3's, copy ALL the data from other ps3 to this new hard drive, then take that hard drive with all the data now and put it in the ps3 I transferred the data from (replacing the hard drives...). I know its hard to envision but I've been wanting to upgrade my hard drive on my 40gb for a while and don't want to lose all my games, gamesaves etc.

All you need to do is plug in a external HDD to the one you want to upgrade.

Go to the PS3 settings and choose to back up everything to the external HDD.

Then take the old HDD out of the PS3 and put the new one in.

Then go to the settings on the PS3 again and choose to restore from the external HDD.

Akuma; does this work for actual games too and copy-protected save data?

Sending data? Like, "hey dudes on my Friend List, here's some Touhou Project porn" data? Count me in.

Okay. Now make PSP games playable on the PS3. I don't care if I have to pay to access the emulator, I just want that functionality.

The current backup utility has a glitch - It WILL let you restore protected saves, but only if you backed the HD up while not logged into the profile with said protected saves. So make a junk profile to back the HD up in. That being said, this new utility is a godsend... I want my Demon's Souls save to be safe.

Quick question hopefully someone with more time to read can respond to.

Has anyone heard/read that this other backup utility will
A)Transfer locked saves such as Demon's Souls and Street Fighter
B)Only ADD data. I've already played a bunch of new games on my slim and don't want to have to erase all my tekken progress when this comes out.

kthxbi its back to work guys

i wish next time they would let us play PSP games via the PS3 to the TV and maybe somehow either give us a choice of using PS3 controller or the PSP itself..that would rock my boat!!!!

and at least somehow play PS1 games that is stored in my PSP via the PS3 to the TV again..that would rock my boat

what?i have two boats so what

@MitMat

Yup. As long as you are still logging into the same profile you'll be able to play every game you previously downloaded without having to re-download.

All save data and game updates will be saved as well.
