The PSP is still on a winning streak in its home country, with another 85,421 units sold this past week. With a little help from Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, the PSP is leading Japanese hardware sales at the moment.
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (damn you and your silly long titles, Capcom) has already shifted 1.7 million copies in Japan, proving that the Japanese will always be suckers for the acquisition of creatures that do not exist. I only played the PS2 version of Monster Hunter, but considering it had a shedload of potential, I can see how the portable series is such a storm in the East.
I'm glad to see the PSP getting a little love. It may lack the simplicity and library of the Nintendo DS, but it's certainly come into its own. I will definitely have to see what's so great about the portable Monster Hunter series.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And porn.
Lets hope the PSP2 has a better received games. The only real reason the DS did better than the PSP is that right from the start, developers identified it as the console where their games would sell (even if it was crap games like Dig Dug Digging Strike).
i lol'd.
"DS' shit mate, not a decent fifa on it. Got pro evo??? Giss a go, gowon, GOWON!?!? Nah grafics ar shit on deese, get urself a PSP"
Admittedly I do have a PSP but I just use it for emulators and DJ Max, maybe I should dust it off and take another look at the games that are available. ^_^;
Oh and youre gonna hate monster hunter to start with, i bet. Most people do. Unless you like dieing a lot. Or you have some friends to play with. Someone to play with makes it a lot better.
They have to start whating?
PS3 sells 7438 units
It looks like the PSP might be interfering with the sells of the PS3 there.
Now I just hope MS doesnt jump into the HH gaming market... I really dont want to see a Portable Purple Ring of Death...
I had the DS Lite for about 3 months, and collected 9 games on it. Only 3 of those games were worth owning (Zelda, FFIII, and Mario Kart)...the rest were pretty pathetic. The DS is a nice gimmick that has sold well due to its niche market of children (trying to market to everyone else...but I see through that now). I sold me DS Lite and games and made more than what I originally paid. It has a couple good games, the rest are too childish or of horrible quality (Tomb Raider: Legend being one). If I wanted to play flash quality games, I'll just go on my computer...shoot many flash quality games surpass most DS games I've played.
I think he means 'buying'.
I've found the PSP has a lot more RPGs coming out, so I'm happy. There are just not enough of those 'Triple-A' titles about, that's all.
meh...
still catching up on my console games.
