The Euro PlayStation.blog has plenty of new details on the PSP Go. Most of them are pretty positive changes to the system, in my opinion. The one that isn't is the battery life. Also, it's an embedded battery.
PSP product manager Adam Grant:
We have adopted an embedded battery to realize a smaller and lighter PSP system. The battery life is equivalent with the current models meaning approximately 3 to 6 hours for gameplays and approximately 3 to 5 hours for playing back videos.
Either this is going to be a huge deal-breaking detail, or you'll shrug it off because a) you're not getting a PSP Go anyway, or b) you're getting a PSP Go anyway. I'm with the second group, but I'm still a little discouraged by the details on the battery life. I've already got one portable device (iPhone) with a hoofed battery life.
Other more positive feature details:
- game sleep function lets you operate XMB while suspending games
- Bluetooth supports wireless headphones
- clock and calendar functions
- USB cable delivers software to unit
- new M2 memory sticks take up less room on device
Finally, if you haven't already heard, Sony is planning on launching a goodwill program that will address the complaints that UMD-owning gamers have with this driveless device.
The Euro PS blog has plenty more details for you.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Wait...M2 Memory Stick? Does that mean my Pro Duos are useless now?
Completely unsold right there. What Scroll said. Seriously, how the fuck?
And yeah, the M2 is the successor to the Pro Duo. Another useless proprietary memory format from Sony that costs way too much to be competitive.
...true, it was a Game Gear which only lasted two hours on 6 AA batteries though, but still...
But seriously, holy shit that thing is tiny! I'd probably really cramp my hands playing it.
I carry my PSP 1000 with me all the time and I never ever had problems with the battery life. I wonder if anybody ever uses the PSP for that long without being able to charge it. On a plane, yeah, but if you travel by plane on a regular basis than I can understand. But if you do that you can obviously spend some of that money you're burning to buy a couple of spare batteries.
The battery life is just weird. No spinning discs should = longer battery life, not shorter. And embedded? That's kind of a deal-breaker for me right there. If my unit has problems with the battery, I'd much rather buy a new battery instead of a new PSP.
Also, "clock and calendar functions?" Well, all the PSPs have a clock, but I guess the calendar's nice to have. Maybe some games will implement that as a gameplay function.
That's ironic; the psp go is making me want to be a pirate for the first time in years.
I love (yes, I mean present tense) PS2 and like PS3, but their outdated corporate strategies of trying to force proprietary formats like this suck ass. Even Nintendo now lets you use commonly available storage mediums like SD cards. WTF is wrong with you Sony? Pull your head out of your ass already.
The battery life is thoroughly disappointing though. 3-6 hours is how long a UMD intensive game lasts on the standard PSP batteries (I always get an expanded life battery for like 40% more play time) so it sucks that I'd actually be seeing a DOWNgrade in battery life should I get a PSPgo.
Admittedly, I rarely play it for more than 3-4 hours without a charge, but even in the most extreme cases I still had the ability to switch out to another charged battery if needed.
$250 is DEFINITELY too much for me now. I understand Sony wants to turn a profit, but by all accounts, this machine doesn't cost any more (maybe even less) to make than the old PSP. What gives, Sony?

The PSP go is a lot lighter, thinner, smaller and in my opinion very sleek.
If you're not happy with what they have done, then don't buy it.
