PSP Go deconstructed, innards explored photo

Deja vu?

Here's how slow of a news day this is (part two): I finished up a bit more work and then bought a new mattress. Then I went out with my friend for lunch. I did a bit more work on the road, paid some bills, got some of that Vitamin Water and then answered emails. Slow, folks.  That's not to say that I wouldn't have ran this blurb on a deconstructed PSP Go anyway, but I just want to let you know where we're coming from today.

Chinese website levelup.cn has done an extensive teardown and display of all of the PSP Go's innards. Ten full pages of high-watermarked images give you full instructions on how to take one apart, as well as show you all of the interesting bits inside.

Things of note (may only appeal to tech geek types):

  • thin, fully packed circuit board
  • Samsung 16GB memory chip
  • Integrated battery
  • overall elegant internal design

If you don't like flipping through webpages, you'll find a video that they put together on the last page. It doesn't look like $250 worth of parts when taken apart, does it?

I'd have a hard time paying $250 for one even with the imaginary waffle-iron functionality I just bestowed upon it. God knows I love my breakfast foods.

does integrated battery mean when your battery dies it's time for a new psp or take it apart and risk messing something up??

maybe to prevent pandora's for the go? i'm running on the end of my second psp battery and seriously, it's not cool if you can't replace it.

This thing looks like it costs less to manufacture than a Slim and those are already cheap pieces of shit compared to a phat PSP.

The 16GB isn't solid state after all, which means it's horribly overpriced.

I bet they wanted an ipod-like system, that is be able to constantly increase

memory after few months so that sales won't tank.

"The 16GB isn't solid state after all"

What?

How is that not solid state?

If it can be modded so I can have all the fun I can with my 1000(minus random crap that uses the IR censor and UMD drive), I am considering it. I like the screen, buttons and design more. Its also smaller and I wont have my fingers slipping onto the screen ever.

I do wish it was less expensive and had a solid state drive.

I'm not a big fan of integrated batteries. Just replacing the one in my old iPod was a bit of a hassle. I know things look better without panels that come off, but I'd sacrifice looks for accessibility.

I wasn't that tempted by this thing anyway, but the integrated battery really sealed the deal.
