PSP Firmware v6.10 rolling out with Bluetooth shenanigans photo

Sony loves Firmware so much that it's rolling out a brand new update just in time for the launch of the PSPgo. Never mind the fact that v6.00 was released only a couple of weeks ago, here comes v6.10! I think I've updated the Firmware more than I've actually played videogames on the system, but there you go.

In fairness, the new update actually does something, unlike the last one. In preparation for the PSPgo's new abilities, Bluetooth tethering will be the centerpiece of this Firmware. Media Go will also be getting updated with a fresh look and it'll be joined by SensMe, a program that "uses Sony’s proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from Media Go application on your PC to your PSP."

So, lots of PSP stuff happening tomorrow. This all begs the question: Who among you will actually be buying a PSPgo on October 1?

Is this only going to be for the pspgo, or any chance these features (bluetooth) will be coming to some of the older psp models?

Durr, accidentally posted a blank comment.

Anyway, my PSP 1000 bit the dust last week, but the lack of some kind of conversion tool for UMDs is a dealbreaker for me. I'm thinking I might just get a preowned 3000 at this point. Hopefully there will be more around with the release of the Go.

They should develop a firmware to make the PSPGo seem like a good idea.

@Birdman the Friendly get a 2000 if you can- certain models like the one that comes with the battlefront pack ensure a tA082 motherboard so it is hackable at any time if you like- as well the screen has less artifacting than the 3000

I've never even seen any Bluetooth devices for the PSP. How is this supposed to work?

Considering the EU will have less than 95% I'll say no.

Congratulations you have a PSPgo !
But you can play Lumines, Final Fantasy I and II, Metal Gear Solid PO, Breath of Fire III the list goes on and on.

@The-Excel - only the PSP Go has bluetooth, I think.

I'm still a fan of collecting physical media so I'm sticking with my 3000.

I've still got a 1000, so I suppose I won't be getting this.

I was tempted of getting the PSPGo since the pre-order was ~$212 at Dell (as seen on CAG). One of my main gripes about the PSP is the size, I have both a 1000 and 2000 models, but the PSP has never been comfortably pocket-able for me like the DS (which I always carry around). In addition to that, I never liked carrying around a UMDs because they are relatively large and slightly exposed around the hole in the casing; which has lead to me rip my UMDs using CFW.

The size of the PSPGo is attractive to me, and I really don't care about my old UMDs since I still have my old PSPs, but I'm not convinced spending ~$200 (or $250 without the Dell deal) is really worth the smaller form-factor. Which is also how I felt about the DSi- a new iteration that wasn't worth the upgrade. But knowing me, I'll probably cave in later.

I'll stick to upgrading my 1000 for a 3000 (I got over 30 UMDs, and there's no conversion tool for the PSPgo, so....what CAN ya' do?)

Bluetooth capabilities on a 1000? WTF!? I know it says mobile device, but if I can connect my BT headset Id be super duper happy.

Nah only PSPgo has BT built in, the rest don't have that and can't unless there's a buyable add-on they're making (doubtful).

As for the headset thing, nah not yet, it's mainly for internet teathering from a mobile phone atm.

Look on the bright side. At least we know Sony hasn't neglected the PSP Community for the slightest.

What a crazy world we live in. I'm pretty sure the PSP's firmware has been updated more times in the last two months than the 360's, which is beating the PS3 by one as it is.

No way I'd buy a PSPGo. Nothing legit to play on it that isn't insanely over-priced. Sony needs to realize that no one wants to pay $40 for a portable game, especially a digital download copy that they can't sell or even chuck out a window when they're pissed at the stupid analog nub for sucking but not quite upset enough to throw a $180-250 system.

The timing on this is hilarious.

Only just today (well, yesterday if you're being specific), did the people behind the GEN custom firmware find a way past 5.55/6.00 only games. Then, all of the sudden, this comes in. If this happens to block future games as well, I'm just going to keep laughing it up.

While those that are actually buying a PSPgo will definitely appreciate such a gesture, it is indeed yet another useless firmware update. Sony, while the ability to such things is cool and all, you really need to focus on pushing out an update that allows us the ability to sort our new digitally downloaded games easier. The option to split our downloaded games into genre or into user generated sub-folders would be nice (without using Media Go or connecting to a computer, I mean).
