PSP firmware 4.0 adding Google Search to XMB photo

Further proof that our new overlords, Google, are taking over: Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced today that the next version of their PlayStation Portable firmware (4.00) will add Google search directly into the XrossMediaBar interface.

The search engine will be accessible under the XMB's "Network" category, attached to an new "Internet Search" icon. The search will also recall up to 20 items of input for faster searching. The search results will presumably launch directly in the PSP's web browser.

The firmware will also add the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on the memory stick. No word on when the firmware will drop, but there were no firmware updates available at the time of writing.

I guess that's pretty cool. The browser on the PSP is ridiculously hard to use (for me, at least), so I don't really see a point in it.

They should add firmware to allow you to play all your favorite SNES and PS1 games too. That'll help the PSP sell.

you can play ps1 games downloaded via psn. and their is custom firmware that has snes emulators, where have you been night dehumidifier? and if sony released a firmware with a snes don't you think they'd get sued? a stupid question deserves a stupid answer.

Yeah, but c'mon. Who's gonna buy a PSP for the current game selection? This will undoubtedly give what the people wanted from the start: better games for free.

That iz AWESOM! 'Cause you know that I'm using the PSP for the web, since it can only MAYBE load one page per week and hold one page at a time in memory.

Perhaps I will use it for weekly comics.

With the PS3 firmware update around the corner, there is obviously more to PSP 4.0 than just a google search.

Actually, Qraze, after putting custom firmware and NOT emulators on a variety of psps for myself and my friends, i can safely say that homebrew for the new psp's is better. Probably cos of the extra ram.
