PSP-4000 ad was a 'mistake'

8:00 AM on 12.21.2009   |   Jim Sterling

PSP-4000 ad was a 'mistake' photo

Following the news that a PSP accessories advertisement mentioned the PSP-4000, Negative "Destructoid is idiotic" Gamer followed up with Accessories 4 Gamers, the creators of the advert. A4G has stated that the PSP-4000 listing was a "mistake."

License manager Angela Jones said very little else, simply stating that she did not know what had happened or why the ad says PSP-4000. She neither confirmed nor denied further rumors of Sony working on a new PSP SKU, so the rumors are still very much in the up in the air.

Sony itself, naturally, wouldn't confirm anything when we asked the platform holder prior to the weekend. Whether this ad was a mistake or not though, I would be very surprised if we don't see any official mention of a PSP-4000 in 2010. It's the kind of ridiculous thing Sony would do, especially with the PSPgo being as rubbish as it is.

dang it.. sorry, im browsing on my PSP O_o

what i meant to say was: Good ol' Sony. And with all the leaks they've had recently, I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.

It was "Sterling is idiotic" rather than Destructoid though wasn't it Jimmy?

Hey, isn't that the mafia guy from the first couple of seasons of Prison Break. Dang it, I forgot his name! Fellow Prison Break fans, help me out! He was also the "V-Dubbin', Y'all!" guy from the Volkswagen commercials.

Peter Stormare. He was also in The Big Lewbowski, and Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, which is what the header picture is from.

Regardless of whether Negative Gamer is criticizing Destructoid in general or just Jim, it's stupid to insult them for following up on a rumor.

You know?

Ha, right, okay. It's like dealing with an elementary school kid. You know that by snidely slipping in that "Destructoid is idiotic" bit, you're just riling up all the legions of snide, sarcastic middle schoolers that look up to you for whatever reason.

There's no way you of all people don't get how fanatical the hardcore Destructoid community is.

Whatever, man. With every article he writes he can't seem to exact enough self-discipline to refrain from inserting some little, throwaway line to rile up somebody, whether it's PS3/360/Wii/PC fanboys or whoever. It's tiring and it makes Destructoid in general less fun to read. Every article tries to be inflammatory in some way, at least from Jim. At some point, he's got to stop playing the victim when he clearly tries to provoke people. I can't tell you how many times I've seen comments from him in response to pissed off commenters under his articles that equate to Goofy saying, "Aw, gorsh. What did I do this time?"

Eh, I'm just done with it.

When you can exhibit the self-discipline to stop reading something you quite clearly dislike, I might take something you say seriously, k?

Glad you hold yourself to the same journalistic standards as random trolls in the article comments. Which, I guess if we're honest, is all you've really ever been.

"I didn't want to be egotistical and claim sole credit."

I assure you, if someone said "Destructoid" and "idiotic" in the same sentence, they were directly or indirectly referring to you.

Alright, I'm going to pause that whole "I'm just done with it" thing for a moment because that's a defense that you seem to throw out a lot.

Destructoid is still a good source of news. You write for Destructoid. Typically, I just avoid your stuff. But occasionally, luck rolls against me and you happen to be the one to write the story on a legitimately interesting piece of news. Like this. Or the Pachter "music games have too much value" story. I'm not going to deprive myself of the story because of you, and I'd rather not switch to a lesser news site just because I (like many others) don't like your inflammatory writing style.

Hopefully that answers that.

If you don't like jim's attitude or writing style.....look for the name at the top of the page to see who wrote the article before clicking in further. NEXT, DON'T COME IN!!!!! I like jim's writing and humor and want him to continue. So please Jim, continue doing what you do.
Secondly, it would be nice to hear a rumor about the next generation psp already instead of all these rumors of old hardware rehashed. Make it happen sony, stop pushing the GO and move on.

what's with the psp go hate? i mean.. digital distribution is good, right? i'd think a body would support the Go all things considered, they're not really fucking over people who have previous psp models since all the games that come out for the Go are also available in UMD format, and for new adopterss (like myself) i like having my whole library in my pocket instead of having to carry around those brittle UMDs all the time. . Anyway, seems like Jim is grinding an axe for a piece of hardware that he didn't like, which is fine, but i just wonder why every time the thing is mentioned Jimmy has to declare it "a failed experiment." as if he's the first and last word on this.

Not sure why everyone's surprised he's harping on the PSPgo. Didn't anyone read his writeup of the first like, 4 hours he spent trying to get the system to work after he bought one?

Fuck.

Jim is a paid troll. Beyond stating the obvious, I'm not going to launch any other sort of personal attack on him.

I've just taken to skipping any article with his name on it, and patronizing other gaming blogs for the majority of my news.

The Rev Rants and C-blogs are the best content on D-toid.

Yes, the Go does suck. I'm sorry, but throw a bigger memory stick in a CHEAPER 3000 model and voila. Not to mention you still have the option of UMDs. The difference is a less compact, non-slide system. Now was it really worth that much money? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Sony screwed the pooch on that one.

In other news, Sony has already announced a new PSP model other than the go that would contain the UMD drive, though it's official title has yet to be released. No time for links, but it was announced around the time everyone was freaking out thinking that UMDs were getting phased out by the Go.

Jim, I must criticise you.

Much as I dislike that whatisdelicious is snapping back with a customary response that in this case is unwarranted, you can go fuck yourself over the defense of your writing that "nobody has to read it." That's no fucking excuse for anything and like I said a few weeks ago, don't even try to justify yourself by that means.

Before you think to reply in defense of your previous statement, remember "you didn't have to read my comment given the fact that you knew what to expect at the beginning."

What exactly is there to add with the PSP 4000 anyway? The only way I can think of improving the hardware would be to let it play DS and GBA games.

Or maybe it'll be a PSP XL with a screen the size of a laptop.

@pakx

"Digital distribution is good, right?"

Have you ever browsed the PSN catalog? The prices are pretty ridiculous when you can buy used UMDs for cheaper. That and a fair number of games are still missing from the catalog.
