PSP-3000 is rather popular, sells 140,000 on launch week photo

The new PSP-3000 is more than a little popular, having shifted 140,000 units after less than a week on Japanese shelves.

The new PSP model, which was revealed at Leipzig, boasts an in-built microphone and a highly improved LCD screen. Our very own Dale North described the new screen as "kick ass," and that man buys a lot of gadgets, so you know he can be trusted. Seriously, he owns four phones. For no reason.

The Japanese people are clearly just as impressed, with exact sales figures displaying 141, 270 sales within four days. In addition, both the PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 have benefitted, with knock-on sales giving them a combined sales figure of 155, 720 last week. Not bad.

Looks like the 3000 has given Sony something to smile about in the East. Is similar success being had in the US? We'll need to wait on the figures, but I really hope there's a boost. The better the PSP does, the more time developers will be willing to invest in it. As a PSP fan, I really want that to happen.

Where are these numbers coming from?

I'm sure this week's final numbers will show huge PSP-3000 numbers and a devastating collapse of DS sales due to the pending DSi release.

Now if PS3 could generate sales, that would be more interesting. We need two HD consoles to succeed in all markets to keep the competition going.

psp-3000 and firmware 5.0 are an enticing pair, but with the psp moving to a download format (which I believe it is and am in favor of) they need to get the price of those memorysticks down. even an 8GB isnt going to go very far if I'm downloading full size games.

They know how to become #1 in the US. They've got the power to do it whenever they want.

Jumping Flash! 2 on the Playstation Store.

@ gamadaya

That sir it's true. At the official PlayStation forums people are complaining about this and Sony is aware and "looking into this".

I remember crying because my brother and sister turned off Mighty Mouse so they could watch Mickey Mouse Club.
