PSP-3000 bundle is a go: fire at will, fire at will

It seems like just yesterday that we were telling you about the PSP-3000, Sony's latest upgrade to their PlayStation Portable. Its built-in microphone and shiny new brighter anti-glare screen don't sound that sexy on paper, but seeing them in person gets you kind of hot.

After eyeballing them on the TGS show floor, I really wanted one. A few days later, I was shopping in one of Japan's mega-electronics stores, and I came across a huge display of PSP-3000 boxes. I stood there for a long time wondering if I could pull one from the display. My poor Japanese reading ability eventually told me that these were empty boxes. But they were sexy empty boxes!

Back home here in the good ol' U.S. of A., the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters PSP (PlayStation Portable) Entertainment Pack hits store shelves this week for $199.

Here's what comes in this pack:

  • a Mystic Silver PSP-3000
  • Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
  • National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD
  • a voucher for echocrome, downloadable on the PlayStation Network
  • a 1 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo

If you already have the PSP-2000, maybe this isn't as attractive to you. But when you see the screen in person, technolust will take over. It did for me. I'll say that the silver finish on this new PSP-3000 looks nicer than it did on the PSP-2000. Maybe that helps?

Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced that the new PSP-3000 system is now available as part of a family-friendly bundle. The Ratchet & ClankÒ: Size Matters PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) Entertainment Pack hits store shelves today for $199.99 (MSRP). This limited-edition bundle marks the first-ever North American availability of the PSP-3000. This updated PSP system features a more vibrant LCD screen with a wider color gamut and anti-reflection technology, as well as a built-in microphone to enhance both multi-player gaming and Skype™ calls.

The Ratchet & Clank PSP Entertainment Pack offers great value to consumers looking to get the most for their money, providing both the PSP hardware and content that the whole family can enjoy.

If the battery life is any good, I'll be looking to get one. Would absolutely love to be able to use the cross functionality with the PS3.

If not, I won't.

If LittleBigPlanet goes to the PSP, then so will I.

I picked this up (thanks Amazon launch day shipping!)... it's definitely lighter and brighter and is less slippery if that makes any sense. I had the 2000... so is it worth the extra $200? Uhm...

Oh... I do love how they present the bundle in the press pics... all pretty with the two full sized cases for the UMDs. But yeah, they don't really come like that. Rather, they're in little cardboard sleeves (no trading in allowed).

This is tempting. I've been on the fence about the PSP for a while, but since I got my PS3 it looks more and more promising.

If and when I've got any money left after the next couple months I will get it. Still rocking that phat one but I want me a second one as with every console I've got.

I have been thinking about upgrading my PSP as I have one of the originals, but the wallet is empty with all the great games coming out this Christmas.
