PSN will become Sony Entertainment Network this Tuesday photo

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, the PlayStation Network shall cease to be, and the Sony Entertainment Network will stand in its place. Existing PSN members are receiving emails informing them that their terms of service are about to change in the wake of this alteration.

Sony says the rebranding will not apply to the PSP "at this time." I guess Sony's already planning to bail out on that system completely with the PS Vita on the horizon.

We've known that the PSN was to be folded into the SNEI for a while, but it's been months since we last heard anything. Sony says the only thing that'll really change for users is the name. The online services -- and your associated login details -- will remain the same, but you'll have to get used to calling it something else.

I'm just going to start calling it Colin.

Dammit, what are we gonna call it when it stops working again? Sony NotWork Entertainment? Eh,it doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely...

But in seriousness, I vastly preferred calling it PSN, but I guess I'll eventually get used to calling it SNE...man,that sounds lame...

Sony Network Entertainment International just rolls off the tongue like melted butter. So does SNEI. Sometimes change is for the best.

I play my games on Sony Network Entertainment International. Do you play games on Sony Network Entertainment International? You should checkout Sony Network Entertainment International.

Huh,missed the "International" part, well it certainly sounds better now, but I still prefer PSN, if for no other reason than familiarity.

I guess SNEI sounds pretty rad.

While not a big deal, it's a little disappointing. I thought PSN had a nice ring to it. SNEI? Sounds awkward like someone was sneezing while trying to say sneeze and never finished the word.

I'm still going to refer to it as the PSN. You can change the name officially, but you'll never change the name in my heart. YA HEAR THAT SONY?! Hey what are you doing? Get away from my heart.

Hey Jim! I've read on other sites that it will be called SEN and not SNEI. Which is the correct one?

You should refer to it as "The Service Previously Known As PlayStation Network" from now on.

I mean, that sounds less awkward than SNEI. Saying S-N-E-I lacks the clean brevity of "P-S-N", and "snee" or "snie" sounds like something from a Dr. Seuss book.

I see people are very misinformed about this whole thing as is with everything Sony related.

PSN (PlayStation Network) remains PSN, your PSN login credentials is however now a universal login credential for Sony Entertainment Network which PSN, Music Unlimited, PS SUITE market for Android devices and other Sony services are a part of. Jeez

“While not a big deal, it's a little disappointing. I thought PSN had a nice ring to it.”

Yeah, this is just Sony shooting themselves in the foot again. PSN had a nice ring to it, like XBL for XboX Live, or TNN for The Nintendo Network, but SEN just sound stupid. Oh well whatever, its a second rate network anyway, so they might as well give it a second rate generic corporate name, to go along with it!

I'd be more accommodating if it wasn't a marketing tosser trying to make us forget about their hacks and BRAND SYNERGY INCREASE.

Would be the same level of bullshit if MS turned to Zune Live or some shit.

I wouldn't doubt they do start charging for online. The tepid Vita launch in Japan as well as a really bad financial 2011 overall will have them bleeding customers for cash this year.

Im doubting that for the sole reason that people have been saying that for 5 years now with no proof outside people paranoia to support it.

Steam, psn, Nintendo network and hell even origin have showed that pay for your own internet mentality is exclusive to MS.

Besides Sony financially i wouldn't worry about. Everyone seems to forget they were set to make profit last year until that earthquake, tsunami, power plant fuck it combo hit Japan.

Even then Sony probably had their assets insured, they been supposedly bleeding money for a year yet there have been no real major cuts, infact they have seemed increased production, which probably means some insurance company out there took the worst of it.

If I'd been hacked as much as PSN has been I'd want to change my name too. Maybe that way they can claim that the $ony Entertainment Network has never been hacked.
