Haven't gotten the e-mail, haven't tried to reset, won't until things settle down some. For those of you that have, how does this work when you have two devices, do you have to reset it on both or are they smart enough to notice that it's been changed once?

thank god i downloaded this yesterday(around 2AM) i was wary of not downloading it due to many people downloading at the same time. little did i know that they were doing region by region so the download was faster than i thought.

I was all ready to reset my password until I remembered I'd made it specifically for PSN and had never used it anywhere else.
A rush of users on the network when service is restored? This is unprecedented! This is madness!

Okay, so the PSN has been down for over 20 days. Is it really that big of a deal if it's out slightly longer? At least you know it'll be back this time. Jesus, people. Chill.

On the other hand its great news that enough people came back online to force the service to slow down. But it also kinda sucks. One step at a time for Sony's new network.
This always happens in this kind of situation, there really isn't much that can be done. Overload is overload, and the same thing would occur if this was Microsoft or Nintendo.

Just a clarification, because Jim must have missed it in his giddy joy to report on PSN FINALLY being back up. The "services" they suspended for 30 minutes were related to password resets. The PSN services that were brought back up last night were not interrupted for those who had already reset their passwords.
given how much ps3 owners have wanted to just finally be able to play, I'm not too surprised to see this happen. At least any further downtime was minimal.
They probably guessed that it might, I'm sure. So what? Maybe their magic wand is in the shop?
This used to happen when the WoW servers would go down and the authentication servers would be overloaded on restart. You'd have a group of kids who would storm the forums with OMG I CANT BELIVE THIS JUST MAKE IT WORK while the normal people would just wait until physics and logic and all of that had cleared away before trying again.
This is exactly why I got my reactivation out of the way last night.

You'd have a group of kids who would storm the forums with OMG I CANT BELIVE THIS JUST MAKE IT WORK while the normal people would just wait until physics and logic and all of that had cleared away before trying again.

I guess that means I won't be able to change my password from buttfuck to buttfuck1 until tomorrow :(

There's not much to be done. Sure, they could have staggered it back into working shape, but then half the world over would be bitching that they weren't on high priority to get PSN back.
And then there's the fact that millions of people had to have an email rolled out because they no longer own the original systems they made their PSN accounts on. So not only are the passwords being changed, but Sony's servers were also sifting through 77 million users on a database, sending out a confirmation email and then waiting for a link to be clicked so that the database could fully accept the changes that were pending.
Luckily for me my PS3 Slim is fine and good and the original system for my account. No waiting needed form me.
