PSN moves over to Sony Network Entertainment America photo

The PlayStation Network service moves from Sony Computer Entertainment to the new Sony Network Entertainment America on April 1st. SNEA also oversees Sony's Bravia brand, as well as the Sony Dash hardware and their Blu-ray players.

What does this mean for you, gamer? There's going to be a new terms agreement for service come April 1st that you'll have to agree to. Qriocity has these terms listed now, says Gamasutra. When you accept, your PSN wallets will be transfered over. Those users who choose to decline the new terms and conditions will have their PSN accounts closed and their wallets refunded.

I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure I paid taxes on this? will I get the money back with tax? I've got 1.49 stuck on my account and I could really care less about paying for 3 avatars.

......... I should really stop reading these "agreements"

Seriously add the condition "your soul" to essentially any TOS or EULA at and they would make the devil blush.

By refunded do they mean everything I bought until now, or only what I have in my wallet? Because I cant play fatal fury or bionic commando 2 without a psn connection. And , in either case, refunded to WHERE? I bought all the stuff with psn cards!

I really despise Sony and their bad usage of days.

Last time April 1st other os was taken by a fake sounding firmware 3.21

I wish they'd just choose April second so people never questioned the validity of official sony biz.

*granted I know people received emails of both said updates and Sony did post on their blog aswell, still just wish they didn't use April 1st of all days.

The Store could be better. A lot of "buttons" don't click and its formatted 4:3, so maybe SNEA will revamp the whole thing. The sorting functions could be better. Too many redundancies and unnecessary clicking to get where you're going, plus recommendations suck.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the previously announced cross-platform PlayStation Suite software to mesh the PS3 with upcoming Sony products like the,NGP,Xperia,Tablet, etc?

You can't, or are not suppoed to, prank people ahead of April 1st....

I would assume this is REAL but really, who the hell cares. I will hit accept and live on with my life.

I also kind of agree with J03yyz as I recieved the email as well and it looks really poor to come from Sony.

I would like to know how the refund would work. There's some games I wouldn't mind getting a refund for, though I've purchased all my games with PSN cards. Anyone know?

i love how those new terms state clearly that
a) Sony can brick completely your console with no reason what-so-ever,
and
b) while users have ridiculously long list of dos & don'ts(mostly don'ts), it is clearly stated in the last paragraph that all gamers can suck Sonys dick since they clearly can't do anything(,

it's wrong on so many levels. it just boggles my mind that Sony actually was able to make both warranty and any liability completely irrelevant.

To my knowledge, refund is for wallet funds only. Games are non-refundable.

They REALLY needed to issue a press release assuring gamers nothing will change for the worse. Since they haven't done that, I'm SCARED for my Plus plan, scared about losing PSN's rather excellent DRM implementation, etc.
CrazyCowboyDon's Avatar - Comment posted on 03/25/2011 13:12

sofik88 nailed it.

They have worked in terms which claim to grant them the right to temporarily or permenantly disable your hardware and remove all of your paid content.

That's not just unethical boys and girls, that's illegal.

ElektroDragon,
you better read those terms since from April 1st you won't own your ps3 anymore and if sony will fuck up your ps3(firmware updates 1000s other problems caused by Sony) you won't be able to do anything. you can't even do anything agains hackers aside from reporting them(so basically gamers can't demand additional patches to fix online).
if gamers again won't stand up against sony this time(like in the past few weeks when they constantly were breaking consumer rights) it will be pretty much over. those terms even state that you can't do shit when you still have warranty! WTF?!

I dunno... I fail to see the problem.. Just like any other network connected system,If you don't do anything illegal or stupid you don't have anything to worry about.
Hell if it keeps the hackers and stupid people off of PSN I'm all for it LOL

Also, for the people who can't read, this is solely for ONLINE ACTIVITES. Sony is not going to make your PS3 unable for use for violating the terms of service. They will make sure you're unable to USE ONLINE if you violate the terms of service for ONLINE though. So much misreading and wrong information going on the comments.

This is probably a way to weed out hacked consoles.

From what I hear it's easy for hacked PS3's to get free downloads from the PSN store under it's current setup.

3.6 has been hacked already but it's not to the extent earlier versions were. They may even drop a new FW before you accept the terms to make sure your PS3 is legit.

@Malik,
nope those terms clearly state that Sony can disable BOTH software(psn) and HARDWARE(ps3) whenever they want. not to mention you either agree to those terms or your account is deleted.

After actually bothering to read that I confirmed on top of being a troll you are apparently illiterate as well, no where in there does it say any of that.

There just re inforcing the basic rules, don't act like a jackass online or hack anything and its all good.

Even the they just terminate you from the psn. There isn't a killswitch that destroys your hardware.

"permanent or temporary disablement of any system or device through which you receive Sony Online Services"

That not only covers hardware, it covers non-PS3 hardware.

OH NOES! IF I HACK MY SYSTEM (which I won't) OR DO SOMETHING ILLEGAL (which I won't) THEN I MIGHT NOT GET TO PLAY MY PS3!!

Those BASTARDS! What do they think they're doing by not affecting me in any way?!

This really isn't any different from any other ToS agreement in the long run. Hackers gonna hack, and normal players gonna play.

The world keeps on spinning.

@Malik but some copy-protected games only work if you are ONLINE, if you are not ONLINE the drm kicks in and tells you that you have to be ONLINE to even boot the game.

Also, ONLINE

There is no way to remotely brick hardware in your ps3 people. Short of an electrical surge, emp, or a tiny bomb being hidden in the PS3 all these years that has gone un-noticed the worst they can do is what Microsoft does, which is brick the software.

1 April is the start of the financial year, that's why that date is set for the transfer, this is quite legit. Didn't even associate it with April fool's day till I read the comments here...

I don't know whether this is a good thing or not. I often hear Sony's various departments do not work together as well as they should. That's why you end up with fucking stupid ideas like the Playstation Phone.

I want PSN to service my PS3 and PSP, and to be as dedicated for those platforms as it can be. I don't want my PS3 and PSP getting a worse or more expensive service as SNEA makes changes to the business, because they want to roll PSN out on Bravias and telephones...
