PSN going offline for 15 hours tomorrow, will return with new PlayStation Store

     Sony

Bad news first -- the PlayStation Network will be (partially) taken offline starting on April 14, beginning at 8am PST. It will return at 11pm PST, and the only thing that will be affected will be access to the PlayStation Store. So if you were planning on buying flOw tomorrow after holding off for all of these months, you're out of luck.

The good news is that during this time, Sony will be upgrading the PlayStation Store! This upgrade takes the store out of the web-based environment, and adds a slew of new features and fancy upgrades. Don't believe me? Check the video above.

It should be noted that this down time will not affect other PlayStation Network services, so feel free to play Resistance, Warhawk, Unreal Tournament III, or whatever it is you crazy kids do. So unless you planned to spend money tomorrow, carry on as you do.

cool, followed by a firmware 2.30 and some secret easter egg hunt on the new psn store from what I heard (you and 49 other people have to browse all over the store to find some secret free game download to win or enter in a contest) can't wait.

XBL need to provide better descriptions for purchases plus vids/screenshots. PSN does this which is spectacular. SOny basically copied and improved on XBL offers.

That's right Qraze. He stole it. He waited for five long months for the perfect opportunity to strike, to steal credit from those who rightfully deserve to be recognized for their in-depth coverage of Sony's 15-hour downtime... [i]five months ago[i]! I can't imagine why there might be a single person out there who didn't mark their calendar for this date.

Nick, he's absolutely right. You should probably quit never post again. I don't understand how you live with the shame.

Qraze, for future reference, it's considered rude here on Destructoid to say exactly what you said there.

Also, "#1_in_the_hood_G"?

Shape up or GTFO.

On a more related note, I'm trying to come up with a plausible situation in which it would be absolutely imperative to purchase something via the Playstation Store during those 15 hours, therefore causing an actual inconvenience. Any ideas?

The main page looks alot like the Marketplace. That's not a bad thing at all, actually. I'm glad Sony is finally fixing these small things that make Live what it is. Hopefully soon it'll challenge Live and it's "pay to play" system.

@ Tuxy

PSN still doesn't offer demos for it's downloadable games. I'd personally like a demo instead of a video. I don't know about you.

also one idea. me and my good friend might exchange profiles and passwords. today may be the best change to still do that. we trust each other but we both still have money in the account, but it don't matter no. what's everyone else think JUST the today may be the best day to finally do it. is it? will it even matter? will the new store usher in new rules? opinions please.

Don't be an idiot, as your typing style alludes to. If a file states you can share it when you read it's information on your PS3, Sony isn't going to stop you.

Nah, I kid. The new store does look really good. I've always hated how the current one runs through the browser, so I'm glad they're changing that.

Honestly I don't care about a better Playstation Store. I mean, I check it once every month (if not 2 months)-- give me a goddamn in-game XMB already! My games need custom music!

@vexed alex: "PSN still doesn't offer demos for downloadable games"? Ever hear of Super Rub A Dub, Snakeball or Super Stardust HD? Those are the ones I can name off the top of my head. I would go to the store to find more examples but...

@Alex, yeah, creamsnake is right, there are lots of demos for downloadable games.
