If you want to buy PSN games but don't want to entrust your credit card to Sony, there are a number of alternatives like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and GameStop. Amazon used to be on that list, but it would seem that all PSN content has been pulled from the Amazon market. Amazon did confirm that no new PSN content is up for sale right now, but didn't have much else to say.
Amazon is my primary stop for gaming, so this is a little disheartening. There is no way I'm putting my credit card information in Sony's hands, and I like Amazon more than the alternatives. I guess for now anyone who wants to get some PSN points or games is going to have to go somewhere else. Hopefully this is only temporary but if not, booooo!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Original name there, troll.
Why would I not put in a CC account on my PS3? It's easier than driving 15+ minutes to go to the store and buy a card, then spend another 15 minutes going back home, and while you're driving back home, you might run out of gas and spend even more time refilling the gas, when you could be at home, adding funds in your account in just a few seconds, and already have a game or DLC downloaded and installed in just a few minutes. Also, I don't have to call Sony or go to their website to remove my CC account, like that other company *cough* Microsoft *cough*
Sony haters be hatin'
People are so scared about their credit card info being stolen, when all you have to do is pay attention to your account and report anything suspicious within like, 60 days or something, and you're not held liable for it at all.
And if you ARE held liable for unauthorized purchases, then I'd suggest closing that account and finding any other credit card.
And all of this only even applies if your data is used by someone else, which nobody's was.
I admit, no PSN games on Amazon sucks (I bought a few on sale, although that was VERY few and far between), but the risks that people think exist with having a card listed with PSN are pretty much all imaginary. And what little there actually is can be completely mitigated by good financial practices.
I've been using this name for 6 years for everything.
Cool story, bro.
@darknil
Can't you just use another website? I'm pretty sure Amazon isn't the only site that sells PSN cards.
Sony offered you a free identity theft protection program after PSN came back up, and yet people are still saying that you shouldn't trust Sony with your CC account. Well then, why are there people who still have CC accounts on their Xbox 360? Everything on the Internet is hackable, and it's freaking impossible to remove your CC account on your 360. This is why I'm close to thinking that 360 fanboys are even worse than PC fanboys.
Except for the fact that Amazon isn't a physical store. It's an online store that will send you the download code through an e-mail. No need for a car there.
Well fanboys are generally bad but seems that the 360 gamers are petulant fanboys and that is genuinely upsetting and sad
As for the cards, didn't the same thing once happen with Xbox Live cards, and they came back almost immediately?
I'll try Gamestop but I don't have that much hope, and in here you can get the scratch ones, but at 1.5 the price so it sucks. It's not even sold by Sony here and it's been a year since Sony promised a LA store...
I hope they can work something out before Corpse Party comes out.
"I've been using this name for 6 years for everything."
Well, do yourself a favor and stop. I read it as 'kiss kiss depredation kiss kiss,' which sounds like some sort of passive aggressive gay sexual abuse.
@darknil
You have to pay 1.5 times more for a PSN card? The Gamestop near me sells PSN cards for how much their worth, no tax included. If it's $20, it's $20 exact, no more, no less.
I did say fanboys are generally bad. I don't see why i deserve your ire. All I did was to speak my mind. If it upset you, I apologize because we are all gamers here. No need to hate one another.
PSN LA? Well, the content is pretty bare bones and I think they only accept Mexican CCs.
I've found digital format of PSN cards in Gamestop, tomorrow I'll try putting my P.O. box as shipping address.
I can't even be mad at you. That picture was too epic. Haha
Bewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Ha! Cool of you to be such a good sport. :)
I'm sorry that this is off topic but, what the heck is your avatar picture from? Everytime I see you post it bothers the hell out of me for some reason.
I don't know about anyone else but I saw quite a few commentators on various gaming sites reporting charges to their accounts. Whether all claims were true or not I cannot prove, but I still don't think its unreasonable for people to distrust the process. We still don't know 100% whats true and whats false regarding a lot of the things that were reported around that time, and it isn't that hard to just pick up PSN cards in comparison.
Not only Sony has a poor track record when it comes to storing and securing CC information, but international buyers get screwed by the service. Sony support on CC is laughably bad, and Amazon was the only reasonable (and fast) way to get codes.
We trust retailers to protect our personal information. Unfortunately, Sony failed in their responsibility, and broke that trust as a result. Not only did they fail, but it was one of the most spectacular failures in tech history. Free games and guarantees to pacify the herd may not be sufficient to restore trust for some people.
Say your girlfriend cheated on you. Would you instantly forgive her and clean the slate because she bought you a new computer to say sorry? You might take the computer, but most people would still be a little suspicious. That's essentially what happened with Sony.
Sony has the their ebook store (Reader Store) but because all the book apps are now having to be web based for purchasing instead of app based, it's entirely possible that Sony may decide to put their PSN games on their own store where they may get more ebook traffic and additionally don't lose a 30% cut on PSN game purchases.
PSN games and XBL games are still offered through places like Gamestop... but gamestop is set to release their own gaming tablet which will run off the Android platform which likely means eventually having their own Android app store for games... at that point there may well be policy changes that affect carrying XBL or PSN games unless they are smart about it and retain separate profit splitting policies for these two large vendors.
Meh... the whole thing of digital storefronts is becoming interesting. I did a recent blog about it and the topic is very dynamic with a lot of changes going on, but the cut on inapp purchases is a deterrrent to what devs were doing by offering "free games" where you buy the full game through an inapp purchase thereby bypassing the storefront. The storefronts had to do something, it's just unfortunate that the "something" was blanket policies regarding inapp or ingame purchases only being allowed through the main storefront to ensure they get their profit cut. :(
Sorry for the ramble... but until we find out what's going on, I think it's presumptive to paint Amazon as wearing the white hat and having Sony in any way as the bad guy. There's a lot going on in the world of digital sales.
HOLY GRAIL
No, really, I wanna kill Sony. I was just about to buy a Points card for LBP Move, Festival of Blood and Crysis
And no, I can't buy it directly from PlayStation since I don't have an American Credit Card (and I have an American account)
Now this:
This mofo right here has gots TWO credit cards up in Sony data base world and I never had an issue before or after the "breach".
Lock the windows because rocks can't smash them, lock the door because you can't force it open with a open hand push (I've done this). Safety blankets and a false sense of security that's all those things are.
I work at a bank and if someone wants your debit card information they are going to get it, unless you change your password every single day.
Yup... Sony is doing their own storefront. It's android based so it makes sense for them to pull out of Amazon. I'm sure that eventually it will also be web accessible for games, apps and possibly even integrating their music/books or video offerings.
The fog has cleared, great find!
Also, I noticed this on Tuesday when I was trying to get the $20 PSN credit code but it was nowhere to be found. I wish this news would've hit sooner...
If your buying a game/item that's eligible for the credits you've acquired, Amazon shows you your Amazon credit balance at some point prior to your choosing to complete the checkout process, and allows you to opt out of using that credit if you'd like to save it for another time(a little check box next to it that will take it off the transaction).
But that only shows up if your buying an item that's eligible. otherwise it won't show up at all.
I can confirm this because I opted out of using the $20 I have saved on there now, last night when I bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so I could save the credits to help lessen the blow of Christmas. If something else is happening on your account, and this isn't showing for some reason, you need to tell them or at least ask why you can't see your credit before finishing a checkout -they'll be more then happy to tell you why (I can confirm this too).
