Yeah I bought Borderlands 2 pretty much on release day through PSN! So much easier than walking to the store... but then again, I'm a bit lazy I guess! (Plus I get two copies... one for my husband's PS3 and one for my own - though I do pass up on the resell value of the boxed game).

I don't understand why people criticize Sony all the time for their Psn prices, but almost never Steam. When Valve's not having a sale, the games cost full freaking retail (a lot of time $60). Yet I hear no one complaining about that.

What the hell? Seriously, if they would cut the price to just $50, I would jump all over this, but they can't even do that? Fuck it, I'll wait and get physical copies of these things for $40 on Amazon. Chances are that'll be an option within a month of release.

This would be attractive if the games were cheaper than retail (and no, being cheaper on Plus doesn't count). If I'm getting a game for PS3, I'm not going to pay the same amount and have to wait longer because it takes for freaking-ever to download.

So in order to make digital distribution even remotely passable, you need PSN+?

Otherwise you're paying full price for no reason whatsoever. Why do digital people put up with this again?

Like, Elsa said, you do essentially get two copies of game for the price of one. Works great for multiplayers who have more than one ps3.

@balloonkocktail57 - People do complain, but PC games go on sale so often that most people know that they can wait around a bit and get it for a more reasonable price. For example, sure Borderlands 2 was $60 on Steam, but all of my friends uses a Green Man Gaming coupon to get it for less than $40 BEFORE RELEASE. This is not an isolated case, either. Happens all the time.

There was also a pretty big outrage once PC games started to cost $60 instead of 50.

Why does not one company offer a discount on the digital copies? Not Nintendo, not Sony, not Valve, not MS(not sure I don't own a 360 but I am assuming). It seems to me that if they want to pull people into buy digital they would discount the game as there are less costs involved in digital sales than retail sales.

Because there's still obligations to retailers to worry about.

If they bump down the price they piss off all the brick stores, and digital just isn't ready for that fight yet.

That's cool, but unless the digital versions include some of the preorder bonuses that retailers offer it's not that great of a deal, to me at least.

Also, yeah, the pricing could be better, but I guarantee you that this is them feeling out how many people will jump to disc-less games with a regular non-discounted price tag.. 10 to 1 this is how they'll expect things to go next gen, to net a bigger profit.

You can already buy new (retail) copies at $10 off or more from New Egg at launch if you watch for their pre-order deals... and on PC you can get up to 1/3 off a digital pre-order if you're clever these days. Try harder you guise.

So, 60 bucks for a game that can't be resold to get something back if it sucked ass? yeah, imma guess Sony will go with the "limited success" spin once this fails.

Does Sony's Marketing team has an internet connections ?
Do they even look and read what their potential customers are looking for ?
All they need is to get some people to sit on a desk with a large cup of coffee and browse this vast social media around the net and get some ideas to improve their service. instead of spending large amount of cash for a project like "The Wonder Book " no offense to anyone who liked that project .
Or maybe it not as simple as that ? .....Sony ?

@balloonkocktail57: Could it be because you can count on a Steam sale usually 3 months after release date? Not only that but you can buy keys for steam way cheaper than the retail price. Right now you can get Borderlands 2 for $23. Oh and prices go down with time.

Meanwhile one or two year old PSP games are still $40, $20 or whatever their retail prices were.

I freaking bought Hard Reset for $5 on a steam sale, and I even got the expansion for free! I will never go digital with Sony, not until they learn to price their IPs accordingly to real market value.

i still refuse to go digital for games. the hard drive space. the time to download it. (what is this back to dial up times? fast but with larger files) i still like to play my games when the ps3 is no longer supported. or when i dont have internet, or if i no longer have a psn account. etc. etc. i dont like the idea of having to depend on a delivery service to LET me play my games.

on a side note, shit i didnt realize Dishonored was coming out so soon, i thought it was near the end of OCT for some reason. gotta get that. in physical form.

also does anyone know if the copies of doom 1 and 2 with the Doom3 BFG edition are playable online via PSN? cause i know they were on XBLA before as well. but dont recall them being on PSN.

What I do not understand is the people defending this sort of shit. It's like the people who defend Sony for not having a price drop on the "true/super" slim PlayStation3 console which just released. Seriously this is why Steam and the Steampunks (Steam fans) laugh at everyone, and why Gabe is so awsome to most everyone. He understands people. Not that he does not have his asshat (pun intended) points, but considering how utterly fucking retarded the gaming industry is, you can see how he got so filthy rich. I hear Scrooge McDuck, asked him on tips on how make more money. He's that rich. You know what let me amend that -- He's not rich he's wealthy. The type of wealth in which his family, childrens, and their grand children will never have to work a day in their life.

That all said -- Sony is fuckin' stupid. This is coming from a once long time running Sony fan. Not a "fanboy" a fan. I was there as a kid before PlayStation and enjoyed a good solid television set, or walkman/compact discman player. The last eight or so years though? Utter emberassement. It's like being a MassErection fan, and hiding your face from BattleStar fans. That is how I feel. Between full (overpriced in my opinion) digital downloadable games to the coupon book program and it's cultist following I have nothing, but utter shame in owning a Sony product beyond a tv, or speaker.

Sony seriously is that dumb blond who would go down to the bottom of the pool to scratch a scratch-and-sniff sticker. Especially Sony America. Bunch of failed rejects. Okay now que up the Sony defenders and hard asses.

I live in eastern europe and we don't have any big game retailers like gamestop,GAME and etc here.I buy my games online from amazon or game.co.uk most of the time and i need to wait a week or more for them to arrive.On other hand we have a very good internet connection in my country (300mbit/s fiber optics with no download limit for about 20$/month.), so no more waiting for me :)

Any word of this coming to Europe? Or more specifically, the UK?

i don't mind full price, but in the UK these day 1 digital games (so far) come out at £50, game shops sell for £40. if they were £40 i'd more happily sacrafice the ability to trade it in for the convenience of digital
