PSA: PlayStation 3 update 3.15 is now live photo

Heads up, folks -- the latest update for your PlayStation 3, 3.15, is now available for the downloading and the installing.

This update brings, among other things, the ability to play PSP Mini titles right on your PS3. Surprisingly, they don't look as junky as you'd expect on a big-screen, high definition television. While it certainly didn't have the same crisp look as it did on my PSP screen, the PSP Mini games I tested out were completely playable on the console. There have been reports of some incompatibility issues, but I haven't run into any yet; let us know if you run into any problems.

The PSP Mini support is good news for both developers of the titles and those who don't own a PSP. The bite-sized games are cheap, but many of them are solid titles for the buck. Any PSP Mini suggestions for fellow Dtoid readers? Let 'em know in the comments.

How exactly are the Minis played on the PS3? Do you need to connect the PSP with a USB cable while playing, or can you copy the Minis over to the PS3's HDD?

You can simply access the PS Store from your PS3 and download the Minis you've paid for (or new ones you're purchasing). From there, you just launch them like any other title you've downloaded to your PS3.

I just recently got back to playing my PS3 so I'll have to give some a try.

@Nick: What games do you recommend?

Anybody else mildly disappointed there wasn't an epic trailer for this patch like the WoW one?

Well im not too happy wiv PS at the mo, the last update i did (3.10) screwed my console up bigtime. cant do anything on it anymore, it crashes every time I start MWII. Cant play anything and when it crashes all I get on the screen is yellow and greeny zig-zagged lines that stay on the HDMI channel. Well ticked off wiv this.
Anyway I was hoping that when I finally did get the PS to stay on long enough to download 3.15 that this would of corrected the BIG F*** UP wiv the last update but it hasn't. Do you have any ideas apart from sendin it off as i dont have 100 quid to put down for the repair work, and dont feel I should be paying anyway. Also I have tried Restoring File Data, that didn't work either. Do you know any other way?

@wanker

its just a patch; who cares what WoW does really. For those of us who don't play it isn't a big deal. /shrug

The best feature, by far, is the ability to transfer ALL of your data from your old PS3 to a new PS3 via LAN cable. It copies and transfers everything, INCLUDING copy-protected save data! SCORE!

Transfer via LAN cable?Knock me over with a feather! Welcome to 1984 Sony! I'm glad Sony at least figured out how to do it without termination or coaxial cables. Good for
them!

Hey, while you guys are knocking out updates how's about that update where you add in universal software scaling for 1080i TV owners and cross
game chat?

Hmmm?

Now if only they'd just let us play downloadable normal PSP games on the PS3. I know damn well they're capable of it, and it'd probably look better than using the PSP component cables, which are a PITA to setup everytime anyways. Plus being able to use a DS3 instead of a PSP would be a huge bonus...

@Chris Foreman

Since you have tried Restoring File Data, I'm guessing you have tried using the PS3's hidden recovery menu? If not, then you try that. It also has an option to download the latest system update from a PC, save it to a external HD or usb thumb drive and update using that. Hope this helps.

@BlueDesign

And I suppose it'd be more practical to burn this data to multiple DVD's then install these to the other ps3 ? Or maybe have the ps3(a) compress to multiple distinct folders and then copy those over through usb's ? I mean WHO USES ethernet anymore right ?!?!

Hey sony, please stop innovating!!!!!

@ Ganjookie
I think he was kidding...

Anyways yes, if they would only add PSP game support then I would be a happy camper. I doubt Sony will do that though, then there would really be no reason for anyone to buy an actual PSP.

All of the original Mini's will be working properly by the 17th.

Not sure if someone has already said this as the comments section didn't load properly and I'm too lazy to refresh.

Great, so the next time I turn on my PS3, I'll have to wait fifteen minutes before I can play anything, and I'll probably just switch to my 360 in the meantime and forget what I was doing.
