PSA: Grab Four Swords DSi before it's too late! photo

Community member Rammstein brought to my attention recently that the anniversary edition of Four Swords on the DSi's DSiWare and 3DS' eShop will be disappearing soon -- on February 20, 2012 to be exact. I had completely forgotten about the expiration date, as I downloaded it immediately when it was available and kind of blocked the expiration out of my mind.

Four Swords was an add-on (free on-cart DLC!) to the Game Boy Advance port of Link to the Past. It was extremely fun to play, but very hard to gather a group for, considering that it required more than one player. Thankfully, the new anniversary edition not only brings it to two modern platforms, but it also adds a much needed single player option. In case you couldn't tell, I really love this game, so be sure and pick it up now!

Why an expiration date at all? Nintendo taking a page from the Disney handbook?

I think the multiplayer is local only, but the new singleplayer mode is definitely a nice addition.

The single player mode is a Godsend. I never got to play this extensively back in the day on the GBA because I knew very few people who also had the cartridge.

Unfortunately, this re-release doesn't heal the wounds of never being able to access the new, hidden dungeon in A Link to the Past!

@Andy @Chris

From what I remember/understand, it was because it was a Zelda Anniversary gift.

No more Zelda Anniversary year (God I wish it wasn't over), no more gift.

It's kind of dumb, sure, but.. Nintendo has a tendency to pet the rabbits too hard sometimes.

Well, that is until they decide to sell us A Link To The Past again, most likely with this added in for good measure -then we'll end up having it twice.

And, yes, I really do think they'll do this at some point, they just need to quit messing around and release GBA games on the eShop.

There is no reason why Nintendo couldn't keep this up and charge $5 for it. It's so stupid that anyone who buys a DSi or 3DS after the expiration date has no way to acquire this game.

Is it a sure thing that is disapearing and not just becoming a paid download? I could have sworn I heard that.
