PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will support mouse and keyboard photo

Epic's Mark Rein continues to provide a wealth of information.  He said yesterday in Epic's UT3 forums that the PlayStation 3 version of the game would support mouse and keyboard gameplay.
I checked with Steve Polge and he said that YES we are supporting keyboard and mouse in Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3. He is confident we are doing it in a way that will be balanced without feeling "gimped" for either side. We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not.
It's a bummer that we need to get the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3 to make mods. With the PS3 version supporting mouse and keyboard, making mods would be fairly easy on the console. Oh well.

When asked about Xbox 360 related information, Mark apologized and said that there was "nothing new" to report on the Xbox 360 front, and then asked Xbox 360 users not to hijack the thread. He also told them not to expect any news on it before the end of this year. Ouch.

Hey, I thought I was pretty damn fast with that tip ;<
Oh well. This is great news for us that want to play vs PC players. A step in the right direction atleast.

What about the 360 version?

Didn't they announce mods were allowed on the PS3 at E3?

Also, I think having mouse vs pad battles is a horrible idea. This is like playing Guitar Hero with a Guitar or with a controller. No matter what it is going to biased to one side. In some games this might be managable, but in a FPS if you'd like to complete you need to use mouse.

If there was any way to get me to buy the 360 version (because I know I'll have a fair shot) then this was it.

I think you're underestimating how much work and how many different tools are required to create a mod. Even doing something simple like creating a level requires tools outside of the tools that come shipped with the PC version, like photoshop or your choice of other 3D creation software.

HOWEVER, I think it would be nice if Epic let UT3PS3 owners get a copy of the modding toolset for free to use on their PCs...

@watermedia
You can use mods you just can't make them

"We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not."

You don't HAVE to participate in mixed matches, you can choose.

Now all MS needs to do is grow some balls, ignore the incessant whining of the naysayers and allow mouse/key support as well. Or at least let Splitfish make a FragFX controller for the 360 which Splitfish can't do unless they have support from MS

I'm glad the PS3 version is coming first simply so people can see just how overblown this stupid argument is.

@doomtrain, M$ will likely create some first party proprietary mouse and keyboard that only works on the 360, and no other mouse or keyboard will. Kind of like their headsets.

I don't know if modding UT3 on the PS3 would be wise, wouldn't half of the games just be people made to look like Cloud and Sephiroth?

na, playing mod areas on UT2 was pretty fun and refreshing. solid ass engine, now UT3 is going to blow us away. Its smart they allowed us K/M cuz we can already use any keyboard/mouse on the PS3.

Same thing with WarHawk, im getting the box edition so I can use the bluetooth-headset for all PS3 games (including UT3), PC skype talk (FREE CALLS FTW!) and pick up my phone with the head-set.

I'm a console game, I play in my living room. For that reason I will not buy the PS3 version just to get "pwn'd" by some "1337" 12 year old KB+M user sitting in his mom's basement point'n and click'n his way through my virtual face, sorry. Xbox 360 for me, I can wait.

@CreativeEmbassy

Yes, if you want to make a 100% original map, you're right. But who the fuck does that? It's not that hard to just create a map.
Though some Maya/3ds skills is nice if you want to make more complex and detailed things.

What mods other than instagib are necessary? I'm missing the attraction to anything other than sniping.

Assault? Sniping.

CTF? Sniping.

DM? Damn straight there's gonna be sniping.

This places into the "you might as well" category. I wish more developers did things like this, because it's a piece of cake and there's no reason why they shouldn't.

...unless they want to sell an adapter for $70 or something. Screw that.
