In the UK, Official PlayStation Magazine has hit WH Smith shelves around the country, bringing with it one of the first print reviews of Killzone 2. The special magazine, with a "highly collectible" shiny holographic wallet is said by OPM EiC Tim Clarke to match the "visual voodoo" of the hot PS3 exclusive. As you can tell, this special alliance with Sony is sure to bring an impartial review to the table.
"Killzone 2 has been a long time in the making, and best showcases why PlayStation 3 is the only console powerful enough to deliver a ground-breaking title of this nature," says Sony UK PR Manager David Wilson, sounding like a Sony UK PR Manager. "Who better to partner with than the Official PlayStation Magazine, in order to offer the readers a special collectors edition issue. It’s a great way to celebrate the launch of this milestone game."
Looks like Official PlayStation Magazine is the place to be for an uncolored review that Sony had nothing to do with. I jest, but I must confess my own jealousy. I wish Destructoid came in a "highly collectible" shiny holographic wallet. Where's our visual voodoo, Sony!?
The hype train for Killzone 2 is going to be steaming through February from here on out, so expect to be hearing even more about it around the Blogocube. We're patiently waiting for our review copy and will give you the full skinny -- holographic cover or not -- as soon as we can.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
it has SPACE NAZIS what else do you need SPACE USSR, SPACE FRANCE(yeah lol)?
I mean Killzone has always had inspiration from WWII, if the nazis really were super soldiers.
But after every WWII shooter hits the No 1 chart slot, and refuses to leave, I have to wonder what everybody sees in them.
I would rather somebody stuck on some nuanced storyline, edited history, or invested in at least some half-assed scifi setting, than play another WWII shooter.
Another thing I certainly don't understand is that people still compare the game with Killzone 1. That was, what is it, four years ago? People change, game developers change and their games as well. If it was just last year that KZ1 came out I would agree (actually not because I really liked KZ1). Everybody that has played Killzone 2 says it is a GREAT game. What else do you want to hear?
You have my support for the interview, that would be amazing! Even just run in screaming with a video camera, your bound to snag something good :)
Also, I'm still choked that I have to wait until Feb 5th to download my early demo thing. If it's out and other people are playing it already why the hell can't I download it?
.....fuckers.
I'm a bit pissesd about the demo, but I'm not exactly peeing myself in anticipation for games these days, I can wait until I've read plenty about the game :)
Also, 360 fanboys, lol.
I'd still like to play it, though. But I guess the my "PC" doesn't have the raw power of the Cell chip necessary to render the visual "voodoo" of KZ2.
Yes, it's arrogant and likely not quite true, but he did say the PS3 was the only CONSOLE thhat could play it.
Top of the line gaming PCs will always be able to put out better graphics than consoles. We all know it. No need to get all up in arms about it.
Also, sci-fi shooters are not generic, genre's really can't be generic, it's what you do within those genres. Example: Metroid Prime - sci-fi shooters, not generic. Resistance - sci-fi shooter, generic. Half-Life, not generic. Doom, generic.
Prove me wrong.
Unreal Tournament 3 available for the PS3 running on the Unreal Engine 3.
Gears of War 1 & 2 available for the Xbox 360 running on the Unreal Engine 3.
Graphics are equal. (my assumption but seems logical??)
Plus the PS3 version of UT3 supports mouse + keyboard, whereas the 360 doesn't.
I've nothing against the 360 but you said to prove you wrong.
Though the way your comment is phrased it seems like you believe the PS3 actually has equal graphics because your comment is written very sarcastically.
Oh and KZ2 looks pretty good.
Just saying.
Also the first killzone sucked but i really WANTED to love it, and this game looks fuckawesome -- a COD clone with first person cover and killzone's badass art design? WANT.
Every big Sony exclusive is touted as only being possible on the PS3. Really, I've seen no game that doesn't look possible on either system. It's all up to the developers to make games look and play great.
I'll be impressed when the PS3 can make a game create random maps, or design landscapes in real time. I want to see all of that floating-point processing put to use. If someone tells me that a game "looks" so good that it can only be done on one console, I'm going to point them to their strikingly similar GPUs and yawn.
But what else do we expect Sony to say? I really dont care, im more interested to see if GUERILLA can make a good GAME. Yeah, thats what matters. The fucking games. Sony still refuse to learn.
But can you let a graphics card to other things than graphics? That's the thing about the Cell, it can handle all sorts of stuff. In that way it's a bit more flexible. That's what I saw in a Killzone documentary. And it's not some jibba jabba because they actually showed what was going on.
I'm not a 360 fanboy either, I want a PS3 and might potentially buy this game, too.
