PS3 so hot they're practically giving them away in the UK photo

OK, well maybe hot is stretching it. How does desperate sound? According to MCV, a few UK retail outlets have slashed their PlayStation 3 prices in order to get rid of that big black meanie box. Here are the juicy details:

“PS3 performed well pre-launch and the first week of release, but since then sales have dropped considerably,” said Gameseek boss Stephen Staley. “I am sure the deal will help matters. I personally believe the cuts are down to overstocking from launch. Credit goes to Sony for supplying for all of the demand, however this has left most retailers with alot of stock and with the consoles costing around £400 you can imagine, its not healthy for any business to have alot of PS3 consoles gathering dust in a warehouse.”

Gameseek has even resorted to selling at a loss to boost PS3 demand. “We are obviously selling the console at a loss to try and attract new customers to our site. We are sure the PS3 is going to be big business for us over the next eight years so to get a good foothold in this market is essential,” added Staley.

Ah, good to know Sony isn't the only one taking a loss on each console. Keep up the good work lads! There is light at the end of the tunnel ... maybe.

Not hard to do when no one was buying the console stateside. If you don't have to ship to meet high NTSC demand, it's not hard to shift production to PAL units so you have a bunch (too many?) for the EU launch. Sony boned themselves again.

$600 is a lot of money. Yet in the UK, it costs £425 which is $845 US. Europe + sony = rape.

I saw it in Gamestation for £399 I think. Probably the cheapest I'll find it at the moment. Not like I want one yet though.

I really hope Sony does start coming out (not really on top). If MS doesn't have competition, then us console gamers are screwed. The Wii alone really isn't going to be a "main console". I personally hope Sony gets some plan together (maybe get some GOOD games out) because I have the PS3 and I don't want to just have a next-gen Sega Saturn sitting there collecting expensive dust.

I'm still not sure why anyone would want to buy a PS3 (yet). Unless you REALLY want a Blu-Ray player and/or Resistance. Everything else (besides Motorstorm *yawn*) is available/looks better/has more features on the 360. Until potential becomes a reality, it's still just potential.

AHHHH...Haaaaa....HHAAAAAA!!!

Serves Sony right for ripping us Brits off. I though consoles were ment to be a cheap alternatice to PC's.

£399 is far to much for a console. I could get a whole new Graphics card for my PC for that...err wait a minute...

Well idk why people are complaining if they are actually doing the consumer a favor in reducing the costs.

Even Gameseek agrees that in the next 8 years, that lil ps3 everyone is complaining about is going to last all those years, while im afraid xbox and wii might just fade out n remake new consoles.
