Based on the an FCC listing spotted awhile back, we should have saw this one coming -- there's a PlayStation 3 Slim with a built in 250GB hard drive coming to retail sooner, rather than later.
The picture above (sent to Engadget -- that's their logo up there, guys!) shows the unit will be bundle with Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2, which is a game that we suspect will be both good and popular. Smart move on Sony's part, if you ask us. As this leak is simply based on an image, things like release date and price are currently unknown, but we'd guess we'll be learning more soon.
Anyone glad they waited to pick up a slim PS3?
[Update: This is not a real thing, but a hoax, as confirmed to us by Sony today. But, you know, something like this would be cool. If it were real. But it's not.]

That said I wish they sold bundles because I would be all for this. I was hit with the hard reality the other day that there is no such thing as a cheap PS3 exclusive game right now and I'm already shelling out a good bit for the paint job. Aw well.
With the price drop and the sheer value a Slim has over the 360? Your install base will shrink then disappear. ^___^

There is nothing wrong with wanting a console / company to succeed ....... but at this point unless Sony pulls a magical rabbit out of it's ass it's not going to pas 360 anytime soon. Maybe by next fall if they keep selling.
Right now the gap is fairly big. Don't get me wrong, I own both, my PS3 get's way more playtime. I'm just looking at the numbers.
I believe it's a possibility, just not anytime soon. Only the holiday will tell, and first fiscal quarter of next year will tell.

Seriously though, this is kinda a slap in the face for the 360. After announcing that insane overlypriced MW2 version of the 360, only to be countered by this...yeah.
Yes, Microsoft, you WERE beating the PS3. See, even I bought one. But it's time to buckle down and be competitive or you are going to get overun. Give us built in wireless and free gold, and maybe even more of a price drop. Then you'll be ready to compete with the PS3 again.
Not neccesarily. I mean this whole fiscal year can wrap up and Soby could lead in sales and still fall short of a fanbase. Especially if software sales still favor the 360 (and I fully expect them to).
My advice to anyone holding out on Sony repositioning themselves as supreme overlord of vidjagamezlan would be to wait until next holiday season. By then hopefully they will have a decent hardware and, if they're smart, they'll have a plethora of AAA PS3 exclusives that year and once the software numbers start really, really, booming then more people might be like "Hey. This PS3 Slim I bought is totally awesome. I'm gonna start buying multiplatform games for it."
All that said 360 still has Live and I'd hate to say it but Live is the shit.
Thankfully, I know that most PS3 owners aren't like Gene Eric. If they were, I'd be put off getting Sony products for life.
I agree, unless Sony can somehow start selling a lot more software they will stay behind. Like I said though, only holiday sales will tell if they have a chance.
Hard drive indimidation?
well, the 120gb is $299. if you are planning on getting uncharted anyway it is like $50-$60 for the game. So, you are getting the extra 130Gs of hard drive for $40-$50. Its not that bad a deal if you want the game and want to buy a new ps3.
Unfortunately, knowing Sony, they are going to price it at $400. Haven't they realized the mass audience they are trying to reach doesn't want to drop that much, even for a bundle?

$400 is not a bad price really. $350 is way better of course!
