PS3 Slim tops Amazon's sales charts, Gamestop ships early photo

Looking to get that matte black PS3 Slim action that was just announced yesterday? So is everyone else.

Today, the 120GB PS3 Slim pre-orders at Amazon.com has taken the top sales spot for video games, beating out all of the Wii junk that normally owns the charts. They say that the product is in great demand, and that there are already shortages. Amazon is offering the system for the given $299 price and says that they will throw in $5 of MP3 downloads for the hell of it. We find it interesting that they do not list a ship date for this pre-order, though. They usually do.

Gamestop does give a solid ship date, and it's a bit earlier than the expected September 1st launch date for the system. Pre-order it now, and they say it will ship on August 24th, or in less than a week. They do note that it could take 48 hours for processing, but that still beats the launch date by almost a week. "Limit 2 per household," they say. Heh.

Are you ordering a PS3 Slim?

i would actually consider ordering one of these, if ps3 didn't have the weakest game selection of the three consoles. it looks nice, but it's still only a playstation.

I'm really glad to see this decision paying off for Sony. They've really got some amazing software out there, and it's great to see that more people will be able to play it.

Wow, amazing what a little hype, a price drop and some rebranding can do.

If I get a console, it would be this one. Still... I would need a TV first. Till then, it's just me and my laptop.

Good for Sony, if anyone deserves a boost in sales it's them.

I knew at the launch of the PS3 Sony would have have a slim version somewhere down the pipeline, as that's their typical mode of operation. I was waiting for this before I committed to the PS3.

I'll be picking one up sometime in the near future for sure.

Just so you know that disclaimer text of being in high demand and limit of one per person was there yesterday afternoon when the pre-orders started. It seems to me they knew it would rise in the charts (it always does after a price drop) on Amazon and they made the disclaimer early.

Congratulations, Sony, you finally listened to complaints and sorted it (mostly) out. Enjoy the sales you have finally earned.

My order will be around closer to christmas.

My gamestop wasd packed yesterday, sept 1st is gonna be even worse.

Well can't blame em, great library of games, great online, great hardware, and blu-ray for 299$,can't really asked for much else. But I've never seen the used ps3 games section so ravaged before.

@bobyoko

i would say it has the strongest...

IMO

littlebigplanet >> viva pinata
killzone 2/resistance 2 == halo 3/gears 2 (except the annoying XBL kids makes the PS3 games slightly better)
ratchet series/uncharted/infamous/heavenly sword don't really have an exclusive parallel on the 360 (except maybe the new banjoe kazooie game for ratchet).
fable II and mass effect would be the only 360 games that don't really have a parallel on the PS3, though the PS3 has valkyria chronicles and white knight chronicles.

in terms of downloadable games, the only things that i personally wish was on the PSN that's on XBLA are geometry wars and braid, though braid is coming out soon on the PS3. you guys are missing out on some real jems though.. the pixeljunk series (eden and monsters especially), flower, everyday shooter, and fat princess just to name a few.

oh and of course who can forget MGS4?

what games do you think makes the 360s library that much stronger than the PS3s? And how can the Wii even compare to either of the other two? twilight princess, super mario galaxy, super paper mario, and super smash bros are the only real substantial games on that system... to each their own i guess...

I don't know how you all feel about it, but I hear that the used 3rd party partners for some of the new parts to get the price down. This kinda makes me feel like buying the older bigger ones for $299. I don't want it to Red Ring like my 360 just did.

I also prefer the PS3 games out there right now, which is why I'll likely be getting a slim in the next few months or at xmas. That being said, I completely disagree with your Wii comment, those who game on PS3 and 360 tend to ingore the plenty of solid titles on the Wii as well. But as you said, to each their own.

I'll get one eventually, either a Slim or a Phat...which ever one ends up cheapest.

I need a Blu-Ray Player, and this has always been the best option for one...but I wasnt spending AU$700 on one...now there are cheaper options, I'll pick one up when I get a chance.

@thisissami: I love when people say the games on the console they own are unquestionably better than the games on the console they DON'T EVEN OWN, and have probably never played the "worse" games. Makes for a really solid argument.

MS should take a cue from this and consider a redesign to launch alongside Natal. Even I want one of these, although I would never ditch my launch PS3 with BC for it. And honestly, these days my PS3 collects almost as much dust as my Wii, although hopefully Uncharted 2 will change that for a little while.

I'll be looking to pick one up in 3 to 4 weeks.

Hopefully they won't be flying off store shelves the way the Wii was when I picked that up. I had to sit outside of a Best Buy before it opened and they had 3 from their shipment and the bitch in front of me bought 2 of them and all of the extra Wii remotes, which forced me to buy Wii-Play. I'm still angry about that.

i really hope Sony gets some good business and press out of this price drop/relaunch. the bottom line is that the PS3 and the 360 are both great consoles with their own sets of perks/drawbacks. simply put, anyone who doesn't own both systems is missing out on some great content.

I don't get the talk about the PS3's library being weak... it may have the smallest library of the current 3 but it is definitely no slouch. In fact, most third party games come out for both the 360 and PS3, their libraries are like 90% identical. Anyways, this makes getting a PS3 again very tempting. I sold my old 60GB and although I enjoyed the system, I regretted buying it due to price and I honestly hated the George Foreman grill look... this Slim version looks nice and sleek. I can see this definitely boosting sales because it is again a lower priced Bluray player PLUS a PS3. Only reason I may pass is because I have a 360 that keeps me real busy and I don't give a crap about Bluray movies... there is no way I am building another movie collection that's only good for 5 years in this lifetime... ON DEMAND BABY!!!

I'm sticking with my 80gb right now, just because it's backwards compatible. If this was B/C, then I'd definitely grab one, but I'm good with what I have right now.

Also, everyone needs to stop with the OMG, PS3 GAMEZ SUK, THE LIBRARY IZ SMALL. No, it's not, and no, they don't. That's how it used to be, but it's time to get with the times.

Quite a few successful trolls in this topic, bobyoko to name one.

Also, ErigBurger, I think the argument going on right now is more about better in QUANTITY, not QUALITY. I think both PS3 and XBox360 have some quality titles in their own respects, but for the people complaining that the PS3 has no games is highly untrue if not completely backwards, compared to its competitors, and the proof is on the lists.

If you get this one you should buy Warhawk. I think it is the best and most unique competitive multiplayer on the system, but you will have your ass handed to you when you start out.

That looks sexy and I kind of want one but I don't see any reason for an owner of a fat PS3 to buy one, unless it was for someone else. I've got a friend who's looking to buy a 60GB PS3 and he was disappointed that there was no backwards compatibility in the Slim.

If I may make a prediction: If the PS3 Slim starts selling like hotcakes now, Sony will put backwards compatibility back in soon. They said it wasn't an affordable tactic so once they start making a profit I'm sure there'll be absolutely no reason why it wouldn't be a good move on their part.
