It's fairly safe to say that the PS3 Slim is a hit. After humiliating the Xbox 360 in the UK, Sony's slimmer Black Box o' Blu-ray has taken Japan by storm, managing to shift over 150,000 units in just three days. The dramatic success of the Slim has led to a sales record for the system, marking the biggest leap for the console in history.
This is quite a step up from Sony's previous Japanese sales record, which sat at 88,000 in November of 2006. As of yesterday, the total lifetime sales figure for the PS3 in Japan stands at 3,431,964, and it's likely that the number will keep climbing if Sony can keep up this momentum.
After many months of refusing to lower the price of the PS3, it looks like Sony's decision to act upon public demand has paid off bigtime. With great games like Heavy Rain and MAG on the horizon, I hope the PS3 gets into as many hands as possible. There are games coming out that deserve a wide audience.

How long do you think it's going to last? Is this a Dragon Quest thing where nearly all of it's sales happen in the first day, or a Wii Fit thing where it sells 500,000 units a month without fail indefinitely?

My choice would be SotC and Final Fantasy 6. How bad ass would a $30 FF6 with classic hand drawn HD backgrounds and HD sprites be. Sexier than that seedy assian photo that's for sure. They went to the trouble of updating the game with FMV's for PS1 they should now update that shit proper for PS3. Not to FFXIII's standards though, more like how Capcom revised SFII and stuff except more expensive coz obviously a crapload more work would have to be done to update FF6, hell you would have to create the entire game again essentially, but it would be amazing. I'd be happy if they just updated the sprites and backgrounds and put it on PSN. I would still pay $30 for that. And it would finally let people know the true beauty of Final Fantasy and the genius of the current Director of FF as I think he did FF6, Hironobu Sakaguchi definitely wasn't a part of that one.
Also, looks like I will do something tonight.
Two years and every PS3 will have backwards compamatabillotee.

The 360 is so last gen.
Needless to say, I'm not particularly suprised. It's actually damn affordable now. I mean, I can actually afford an old, crappy, takesuphalfmydesk model now since a few places are practically giving them away.
Maybe they planned this in the first place. Pushing it as far as it would go so the impact of the price drop was that much greater felt. Wouldn't put it past them, dirtbags.
May have to finally pick one up once Team ICO's third project comes out.
