PS3 sales slipping in Japan yet again photo

I feel sorry for the PlayStation 3. It's always getting a bum rap, from being photoshopped as a barbeque grill to constantly complained about as too pricey. It seems like the abuse will only go on, as Famitsu's latest sales numbers estimate that the PS3 sold almost 1500 units less than it did the previous week. Ouch.

Things look a bit better for the PSP, as PSP hardware family sales boosted from 23,901 last week to 156,000 for the week ending October 17th. I'm guessing the Japanese aren't as bummed about the new PSP's quality issues as Dale North was.

I love my PS3, but I have to admit that I still don't play it as often as I'd like to. Add in the drooping state of the economy, and the market's priciest console may stay lonely for a while longer. Come on PS3, chin up!

I have not played my PS3 more than I have been in the past two months and I don't see myself stopping/slowing till after X-mas sometime as the onslaught of games is huge/

My Wii on the other hand has not seen power in like 3 months...lol

I guess you win some and you lose some. I love my PS3 --- So much that my 360 started collecting dust, and that's why I got rid of it. But to each his/her own.

PS3 gets plenty of play time, particuarly with Fifa and COD.

Wii however gets bugger all, almost regret buying one now!

Sure, I wish there were more good games for the PS3 (I currently own no disk based games for the thing, as LBP got delayed and MGS4 aint my thing), but I don't really feel bad for Sony and their failure to make a console that people want, or that developers want to make exclusives for.

If they had put out a team Ico game at launch, I wouldn't be saying that.

My PS3 gets played all the time. Were it not for console specific games like Fable and Halo, my 360 would be dust covered -- like my Wii has been for some time (console, that is).

Plenty of reason to enjoy the PS3 these days, and no lack of games.

While I, too, wub my PS3, I can see how faltering economies would impact the sale of the most expensive console on store shelves. That, and announcing bundles (with LBP, no less) before said bundle is available is like telling people not to buy it.

your are either being sarcastic or in heavy denial. especially your last sentenced because there really no reason compared to the 360 unless you want blueray.

When you guys are done with the PS3, bring it 'round back of the shed, where the kids wont notice. I'll bring my shotgun.

MF DOOM: Could it be, just possibly, that some of us are just not interested in the 360? Could that thought possibly penetrate your brain?

Shi't our PS3 gets the shit played out of it what with Rock Band, Disgaea 3, Star Wars, GTA, my buddy phil even plays The Show '08. It's goin all the time. The only time the 360 gets any play is when one of us throws in Phantom Dust because that game is SEXY.

The PS3 has 520 titles out or currently in development with 99 exclusives.
The XBOX 360 has 545 titles out or in development.
That is a difference of only 25 titles and the 360 has been out for a year longer. Also, people are wrong if they believe the ps4 will be out in 2010 or 2011.
Thy will just keep upgrading the ram and push the machine. The problem is that many people still do not have HDTVs,so there is no need for high def gaming,or a blu-ray.When this Christmas rolls around and HDTV prices drop I bet you will see the PS3 sales pick up IMO.

I've got all 3 current gen consoles and I "AM" a Sony fanboy simply for one reason; Sony has a stronger 1st/2nd party studios and releases more fresh/innovative/diverse games. All the worth-while 3rd party titles are available for the PS3 anyways so I prefer to buy them on the more reliable machine. Microsoft just 1.5 milks every franchise and are afraid to step outside the "BOX". I don't want another Halo/Gears/Fable every year.

My choice of console is superior to yours. Your console is a poor value, possessing only similar games that are subpar in quality. It appears as though your console was manufactured for a target audience of children and/or the mentally feeble. You may by association also fit into one or both of these demographics. My console, on the other hand, is an objectively great bargain that has provided me with far more entertainment than any other option would have provided.

I regret to inform you that you have been duped by your console's manufacturer, a large soulless corporation that exists solely to profit off the poor judgment of people such as yourself. My console's manufacturer, while also a large corporation, deserves my loyalty because it provides the types of games that people who play games like to play.

Having established that selection, value, and variety of experience all favor the choice I have made and not your choice(s), I bid you good day, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Denial? Hardly. If you were to take a snapshot of my video game playing history, you would see month-long plus gaps between how often my 360 is turned on (I once recall seeing it tell me I was offline for 56 days), compared to my PS3 which gets played at least weekly.

Ask most of the Dtoiders on my friends list. I bet the PlayStation crew recalls seeing my name more often than not. However, I think you are misunderstanding what I was trying to say. Outside of hardware failures (I've been through four 360's buddy), the 360 and PS3 ofter a comparable gaming experience. To say that one offers up so much more is nonsense in my opinion.

I just lean more towards the PlayStation side. Part of it is MS's own fault. Had I not been left without a console several times because of the design of their hardware, I might have been more inclined to slightly favor the 360.

I ask you this one question: What other product in your daily life would you be willing to spend hundreds of dollars on, knowing it had such a high failure rate? I think we can agree that most people would avoid such a product. MS is lucky. At least I (and many others) didn't write them off completely over the whole thing.

Your last sentence explains why I don't own a 360 :)

I spend $2,800 on a TV, I expect it to work.
I spend $2,000 on a amp, I expect it to pound.
I spend $400 on a system, I expect it to work.

I'm pretty reasonable when it comes to saving up and buying quality stuff, pays off in the longevity of the products and as soon as the 360 has a NORMAL failure rate you bet your ass I will be in line shelling out the dough to purchase one!

Personally, I play my 360 way more then my PS3. That would certainly be different if I bought 3rd party titles on my PS3... but I don't. I have a 11000 achievement score, and most games have the 360 as the lead platform anyway. And I play a lot of Halo, and I'll play a lot of Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead when they come out. I'm also playing a whole lot of Fable 2 at the moment. I WOULD of been playing a whole lot of Fable 2 and a whole lot of LittleBigPlanet... but Sony caved to censorship.

I already "acquired" the Socom Bluetooth Headset, but I'll still pick up Socom, once they patch it and make it playable. And Resistance 2 is coming out before Gears and the like anyway, so I'll certainly be playing that.

Just more games on my 360 I want right now, though with LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, my PS3 won't collect any dust.

i love comment threads on thur night.

got a PS3, love it. had a wii, sold it. 360, never had one.

PS3 + hugea$$ hdd (320gb) = movie heaven. plus, you can upgrade it with the times (i assume sony will support larger capacity as time goes on, firmware updates).

I have no problem with that. I respect a quality product that brings me much joy. It has never let me down yet.

@ mix

Exactly! I'm not saying the 360 has nothing to offer. The games and Xbox Live are excellent. I just marvel at how it is somehow exempt in peoples' minds from what we have come to associate with the Lemon Law. MS needs to go to great lengths to make sure this completely avoidable situation never happens again. A smaller company without deep pockets might well have folded over this.

It's weird how people get so up in arms when others state the FACT that they play their PS3 more etc etc.

The fact is I do. And that shouldn't upset anyone. But it is a fact and it is related to the post.

I sold the old 360 a pretty long while ago, after I was sure that my PS3 was going to pull through OK - and after my 3rd replacement 360 (each one looking worse off than the next). I don't dig achievements and none of the 360 exclusives entice me as much as the ps3 exclusives so it wasn't hard selling it. I figure most of the exclusives are timed, and like Bioshock they seem to come out with more stuff added anyway so I don't worry about it.

The Wii hasn't been turned on in months. I even stopped buying the VC titles. I just got tired of messing with the SD card (I had bough something like 60 titles before I gave up on the idea that theyd give me another storage option). But with animal crossing and that new wario game, I think it will be getting a little play soon. So that is good.

You don't? I do ha ha.

I'm SO CLOSE to getting a PS3, and Littlebigplanet almost sealed the deal...though I've said that about other games in the past. My wife will only let me have one... my secret plan is to upgrade to Blueray some day soon, and then blindside her with a PS3 Bwa ha har!

i play my ps3 all the time but i do lack a 360 and theres plenty of multiplatform games to be played. As for the price i guess when he comes to parents buying gifts and whatnot they probably see the low end xbox and dont really question why the others cost more. Of course a low end ps3 has more hardware built in than the high end xbox which for me justifies its price but i guess i can't expect everyone to see that.
