I feel sorry for the PlayStation 3. It's always getting a bum rap, from being photoshopped as a barbeque grill to constantly complained about as too pricey. It seems like the abuse will only go on, as Famitsu's latest sales numbers estimate that the PS3 sold almost 1500 units less than it did the previous week. Ouch.
Things look a bit better for the PSP, as PSP hardware family sales boosted from 23,901 last week to 156,000 for the week ending October 17th. I'm guessing the Japanese aren't as bummed about the new PSP's quality issues as Dale North was.
I love my PS3, but I have to admit that I still don't play it as often as I'd like to. Add in the drooping state of the economy, and the market's priciest console may stay lonely for a while longer. Come on PS3, chin up!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
My Wii on the other hand has not seen power in like 3 months...lol
Wii however gets bugger all, almost regret buying one now!
If they had put out a team Ico game at launch, I wouldn't be saying that.
Plenty of reason to enjoy the PS3 these days, and no lack of games.
your are either being sarcastic or in heavy denial. especially your last sentenced because there really no reason compared to the 360 unless you want blueray.
The XBOX 360 has 545 titles out or in development.
That is a difference of only 25 titles and the 360 has been out for a year longer. Also, people are wrong if they believe the ps4 will be out in 2010 or 2011.
Thy will just keep upgrading the ram and push the machine. The problem is that many people still do not have HDTVs,so there is no need for high def gaming,or a blu-ray.When this Christmas rolls around and HDTV prices drop I bet you will see the PS3 sales pick up IMO.
I regret to inform you that you have been duped by your console's manufacturer, a large soulless corporation that exists solely to profit off the poor judgment of people such as yourself. My console's manufacturer, while also a large corporation, deserves my loyalty because it provides the types of games that people who play games like to play.
Having established that selection, value, and variety of experience all favor the choice I have made and not your choice(s), I bid you good day, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Denial? Hardly. If you were to take a snapshot of my video game playing history, you would see month-long plus gaps between how often my 360 is turned on (I once recall seeing it tell me I was offline for 56 days), compared to my PS3 which gets played at least weekly.
Ask most of the Dtoiders on my friends list. I bet the PlayStation crew recalls seeing my name more often than not. However, I think you are misunderstanding what I was trying to say. Outside of hardware failures (I've been through four 360's buddy), the 360 and PS3 ofter a comparable gaming experience. To say that one offers up so much more is nonsense in my opinion.
I just lean more towards the PlayStation side. Part of it is MS's own fault. Had I not been left without a console several times because of the design of their hardware, I might have been more inclined to slightly favor the 360.
I ask you this one question: What other product in your daily life would you be willing to spend hundreds of dollars on, knowing it had such a high failure rate? I think we can agree that most people would avoid such a product. MS is lucky. At least I (and many others) didn't write them off completely over the whole thing.
Your last sentence explains why I don't own a 360 :)
I spend $2,800 on a TV, I expect it to work.
I spend $2,000 on a amp, I expect it to pound.
I spend $400 on a system, I expect it to work.
I'm pretty reasonable when it comes to saving up and buying quality stuff, pays off in the longevity of the products and as soon as the 360 has a NORMAL failure rate you bet your ass I will be in line shelling out the dough to purchase one!
I already "acquired" the Socom Bluetooth Headset, but I'll still pick up Socom, once they patch it and make it playable. And Resistance 2 is coming out before Gears and the like anyway, so I'll certainly be playing that.
Just more games on my 360 I want right now, though with LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, my PS3 won't collect any dust.
i love comment threads on thur night.
got a PS3, love it. had a wii, sold it. 360, never had one.
PS3 + hugea$$ hdd (320gb) = movie heaven. plus, you can upgrade it with the times (i assume sony will support larger capacity as time goes on, firmware updates).
I have no problem with that. I respect a quality product that brings me much joy. It has never let me down yet.
@ mix
Exactly! I'm not saying the 360 has nothing to offer. The games and Xbox Live are excellent. I just marvel at how it is somehow exempt in peoples' minds from what we have come to associate with the Lemon Law. MS needs to go to great lengths to make sure this completely avoidable situation never happens again. A smaller company without deep pockets might well have folded over this.
The fact is I do. And that shouldn't upset anyone. But it is a fact and it is related to the post.
I sold the old 360 a pretty long while ago, after I was sure that my PS3 was going to pull through OK - and after my 3rd replacement 360 (each one looking worse off than the next). I don't dig achievements and none of the 360 exclusives entice me as much as the ps3 exclusives so it wasn't hard selling it. I figure most of the exclusives are timed, and like Bioshock they seem to come out with more stuff added anyway so I don't worry about it.
The Wii hasn't been turned on in months. I even stopped buying the VC titles. I just got tired of messing with the SD card (I had bough something like 60 titles before I gave up on the idea that theyd give me another storage option). But with animal crossing and that new wario game, I think it will be getting a little play soon. So that is good.
"I don't want another Halo/Gears/Fable every year."
You don't? I do ha ha.
I'm SO CLOSE to getting a PS3, and Littlebigplanet almost sealed the deal...though I've said that about other games in the past. My wife will only let me have one... my secret plan is to upgrade to Blueray some day soon, and then blindside her with a PS3 Bwa ha har!
